Random Ramblings #3 – I’m In A Book Slump!

random ramblings 2

That’s right I believe I’m in a dreaded book slump.

I haven’t posted anything in four days! FOUR DAYS! I am a disgrace, at least in my eyes.

Yes, if I was a Lannister, Tywin would be kicking my ass right now guaranteed.

I would firstly just like to apologize to all of you fabulous readers who venture over here and read my posts! I’m terribly sorry I haven’t been posting as much as I should recently. I’ve just been busy with family and friends and of course the impending holidays.

One of the main reasons however is the fact that I think I’m in a book slump. Oh no!

Yes I do have an arsenal of TBR books at my disposal but I just lost my motivation to hardcore read right now. It’s terrible!

I think it started with my requesting (too many) ARC’s and I now feel a teensy bit overwhelmed. Especially since they weren’t very good, but I have to tell myself now if I don’t like the book I MUST DNF IT. Right?

I still have some ARC’s I need to finish but I’d like to ask you guys (my lovely readers) if you would be so kind as to recommend some of your favorite books to me?

Yep that’s right recommendation time for me! Have fun with it guys, I’ll be looking forward to it!

Leave any recommendations in the comments below!

That’s enough of me rambling now….

Well I would say pretty much anything that’s not contemporary. I’m always in the mood for fantasy if you have anything to recommend in that genre 🙂

Definitely! Right now I’m thinking The Shadow of What Was Lost, cos it just so happens to be in my head after I just included it in my underrated books post. Also, Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn series is always a good shout. And The Name of the Wind- cos even though it’s obvious, if you haven’t read it, it’s worth checking out! 🙂

I’ve heard of the Mistborn series and The Name of the Wind before and it seems that Mistborn is supposed to be really good. I haven’t heard of The Shadow of What Was Lost so I’ll have to go check that one out. I’m thinking Mistborn might be the winner though, haha. I really appreciate the recs, hopefully I can read at least one soon and get myself out of this dang book slump. 🙂

I’m so sorry you’re having the slump 😦 I hate it when that happens.. If you want something funny and sexy and easy to read, you can try Darynda Jones’ Charley Davidson series. 🙂 The heroine is a badass and sarcastic to boot.

If you also want to read something complex and mind blowing, either a Brandon Sanderson or The WAYWARD PINES series by Blake Crouch. You can also Dangerous Girls if you’re feeling some YA books 🙂

I’ll definitely have to check all of those out, I believe I’ve heard of Dangerous Girls before… And Brandon Sanderson seems to be the general consensus right now, haha 🙂 I have a ton of his books on my TBR, reading his Mistborn books might just become a priority! Thanks so much for the recs Paige, I really appreciate it! 🙂

85% of my friends loved Dangerous Girls while 100% of my friends fangirl and drooled with a B.Sanderson book so I think you’ll never go wrong with it. Hope this will cure the R.S 🙂 And you’re welcome 🙂

Hey, Sassy! I know what you’re going through…sort of! I don’t know anything about the ARC’s or DNF’s or what they mean. But I know the feeling of a book slump! I wish mine only ever lasted four days. Lol. I have to suggest this because I can’t help it. The Celestial Kiss is $2.99 on amazon Kindle right now. I hope you find what you’re looking for, and when you do, please let us know! 🙂

So sorry to hear that! Reading slumps are the worst 😦 I hope you are able to get out of it quickly! I’d definitely recommend reading Hyperbole and a Half by Allie Brosh if you haven’t already. That is a very quick and absolutely hilarious read, and actually got me out of a reading slump last year 🙂

Two other pretty quick, fun reads are Jackaby by William Ritter and Nimona by Noelle Stevenson. And, being that it is one of my favorites, I’d recommend The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. This is another one that’s nice for a slump since it’s a collection of short stories; it’s one that you can take your time with and read a story here and there. Also (this is a bit of a cheat since I haven’t actually read it yet!), you should read Vicious along with me this month! 🙂 It sounds like it might be a good book for getting out of a slump!

I could definitely use something humorous, that would probably help a ton, haha. I’ll have to check out Hyperbole and a Half then! And I know my library has Jackaby so that’d be an easy one to get a hold of and I’ve heard TONS of good things about Nimona even though I don’t know a lot about it. And I was just thinking about Vicious last night, odd huh? I would love to read it with you this month, that’d be a lot of fun I’d think! 🙂 Great recs Ariana, thank you so much. I’ll check all of those out!

You’re very welcome! Hope you enjoy them and that they help get rid of the slump. I’m excited to see what you think of them, especially Hyperbole and a Half! That would be awesome 😀 I’m probably going to start reading it toward the end of this coming week or early next week if you’re in the mood for it and up for an impromptu/casual buddy read 🙂

I’m definitely excited to read Hyperbole and a Half, I don’t think I’m patient enough to wait for my library hold, I might just go buy it! And I’d love to do some sort of buddy read, I’ve been looking forward to reading “Vicious” for a while so it’d be a lot of fun! 🙂

I just saw on Goodreads that you’d read it; I’m so glad you enjoyed it 😀

Great! Can’t wait to talk about it with you! And if you want to do something on our blogs, I thought we could maybe give each other a couple of discussion questions to answer in our reviews or something like that. 🙂

It was an excellent recommendation! And I’d love to do something like that as well except you might have to help out a little since (I have no idea what I’m doing honestly). But I think it’d be a lot of fun! 🙂

This is my first buddy read so to be honest, I don’t either! Haha! 😀 We can read it now and talk/fangirl (I’m assuming there will probably be some serious fangirling to be done!) together on Goodreads or Twitter or something. We can totally just figure it out as we go! 🙂

OMG! I am so sorry you have to go through the Slump! It is the absolute worst. I would recommend picking up something small like maybe a graphic novel or maybe just a 300 page book, because after you finish reading that, you will feel accomplished and it will encourage you to read more! If it helps, to get you out of the slump, you could even re read one of your favorite books to help you get back into your comfort zone! I would recommend Frostfire by Amanda Hocking because it helped me get out of my slump! Really hope you can get out there and start reading like a pro again!

Thanks Loreva, I’ll go check Frostfire out since I haven’t heard of that one before (oh no!). And you’re absolutely right, I think reading a smaller paged book would probably help a ton! 🙂

oh no that stinks! Last time I was in a slump I read middle grade to get out of it and it was beautiful! If you are willing to give middle grade a chance why not try the Secret Books series by Pseudonymous Bosch. It’s easy to read since it’s middle grade, but I think it’s enjoyable for all ages.

I’ll have to check those out! You’re right I think maybe something smaller paged or easier to read like middle grade would help me out a lot. Thanks Raquel! 🙂
