The Secret Life of a Book Blogger

lifetime(10)

I was tagged to do this by both Astra @ A Stranger’s Guide to Novels and Beth @ Reading Every Night! Sorry it took my over a month to finally do this guys, so embarrassing. Make sure you all click the links and check out their answers as well, they both have extremely awesome blogs!

Fun fact before we start: I really enjoy answering questions, well fun questions where the answers are me-related because I’m egotistical like that.

Anyways let’s get started!

How long have you been a blogger?

Since August of 2015 so around the 9 month mark. The Sassy Book is my first and only blog so I’m definitely still super new. I feel like I child running around alone in a store, it’s fun but also overwhelming and confusing at times still. 9 months really feels like along time but to me it’s nothing, time has flown by.

At what point do you think you will stop?

Not any time soon I can tell you that! My blog is the perfect outlet for me to say whatever I want about books and other bookish things since in real life there’s few of my friends that actually enjoy books as much as I do. So I definitely don’t have an end date in mind at all for now.

What is the best part?

I know everyone else says the community and I’m going to have to agree with them! Without the wonderful book blogging community I probably wouldn’t have made it this far and I probably wouldn’t be having as much fun either. Everyone is absolutely fantastic and supportive I have yet to meet a single person that wasn’t super friendly and helpful!

I LOVE being able to talk to all of you awesome people about books!

What is the worst thing?

The pressure of posting. I know this is a hobby and I shouldn’t feel pressure at all but sometimes it gets to me and I worry about when I go too long without posting a single thing. Sometimes I just don’t feel like writing up a post or I feel like I don’t have anything to say or that everyone will forget me if I don’t post!

Of course none of that is actually true but I get pretty stressed out easily about it even though I know I’ll get off my lazy butt and get around to my posts eventually.

How long does it take you to find/create pictures to use?

Not that long really! I’ve done up a lot of images that I just re-use in all of my posts so I don’t need to make images for every single thing. Usually though it takes me maybe 10-15 minutes if I’m doing an image with my own text, but it does take me a lot longer to take photos of my books maybe like half an hour.

Who’s your book crush?

I know I keep going to the same person for these types of questions but honestly I don’t really have a lot of book crushes so George Weasley is my default answer, I’ve had a crush on him since I was a kid and read Harry Potter for the first time.

What author would you like to have on your blog?

V.E. Schwab or Gillian Flynn, I’ve read a few of Schwab’s books and all of Flynn’s and I just adore both of them. They’re both auto-buy authors for me,  I’d definitely have no problem coming up with questions to ask them!

What do you wear when you write your blog?

Clothes.

Haha. Sorry. No I’m really not that fussy since most of my clothes are comfortable enough for me to blog in. Usually I’ll wear yoga pants and a t-shirt or sweatshirt though. Sometimes I don’t like to wear pajamas while blogging because then it makes me feel more sleepy and lazy, so wearing my “out and about” clothes makes me feel a little more motivated.

How long does it take you to prepare a post?

To be honest I don’t usually keep track of how long it takes me, but for the most part a few hours. I get side-tracked easily…..

But I find that I can write a better post if I take breaks anyways.

How do you feel about the book blogger community/culture?

It’s seriously amazing. As I said earlier everyone is so friendly and helpful and nerdy. There isn’t a single thing wrong with this community and I’m so grateful to get to be a part of it and talk to all of you amazing nerds!

What do you think one should do to have a successful blog?

  • Do NOT be afraid to interact with people, even if someone has 1,000+ followers! They will reply and talk to you! None of us bite, I promise.
  • Do NOT worry about how much traffic you get to your blog, sure some high stats are nice but don’t let it overwhelm you because stats aren’t everything!
  • It’s a good idea to post frequently but don’t do “quantity over quality”, you want your content to reflect you after all!

I didn’t realize how many tips I had in me I probably could keep going!

I actually did this a few weeks back ! But thanks though for thinking of me 😀
I totally relate with the pressure thing because I don’t have time to post every single day and sometimes I feel like the amount I do post is not enough but well, it is alright !

Dang, sorry! Good to know I’m not the only one who feels the pressure, everyone says it’s a hobby so don’t worry about it which they’re right but I still get worried. I definitely know how you feel about feeling like you don’t post enough though! 🙂

I just realized that we have been blogging for nearly the same amount of time! 😛 (Though I started at the end of July and not in August.) Meeting so many people that love reading is always wonderful and also my favourite thing about blogging.
Thank you for nominating me! ❤

It is definitely the best part about blogging, I love talking to everyone about books since I have so few people to do it with in person. You being one of them Anna, haha. I can’t wait to see your answers for this one! 🙂

The community really is so wonderful! I started blogging in March and I’ve been so overwhelmed by how lovely everyone is. It’s such a great place 😀

I totally feel you on the posting thing and being distracted, haha. Sometimes I worry I post too much, but then I worry that not enough of those posts are actual reviews. I try not to let it get to me too much though because like you said this is a hobby and I really am having a lot of fun so that’s the main thing!

    Great post ♥

Thank you! I only wish someone told me to not be afraid to interact sooner, everyone really is so friendly and wonderful! All of that definitely makes up for the pressure of posting sometimes. You’re right though the fun of blogging really is main thing! 🙂

I loved reading all your answer, this is a great post. I know what you mean, I’ve been blogging since November and time has definitely flown by. I’d like to say I’ll never stop as well!
I love your advice as well; I definitely agree about the first one, it can be so intimidating when your commenting on someone’s post who has loads of followers but everyone on the WordPress community has been so amazing. It’s a brilliant place to post thoughts on books!

Thank you! Yes, everyone really is so wonderful I only wish someone had given me my own advice earlier since I was definitely intimidated by other people’s blogs! Now I know better! Thanks for tagging me and reading my post, Beth! 🙂

That’s all right 😀 and yeah the more you post and the more your on WordPress the more you kind of learn that you think would have been so helpful when you were just starting out. I certainly feel that way sometimes.
And again that’s all right 🙂 I really enjoyed reading your answers!

I can relate to the pressure of posting, I stress out very easily and I tend to compare with others, which always ends with me being depressed because I feel my blog has nothing really interesting! So I have a magic post it to remind me blogging is fun and should stay fun 🙂

Thank you for doing the tag, I loved reading your answers!
We can both be egoistical together as well then, as I love doing tags were I get to talk about myself!
I get sidetracked so badly, it isn’t even funny! It can take me so many more hours to post because of me dancing to music 😀

Thanks Astra (and thanks for tagging me)! Good, I’m not the only one who loves to talk about herself! It takes me a while to do up my posts and I have to shut off music and everything to concentrate and STILL get sidetracked haha. 🙂
