Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Read Because of Other Bloggers

Top Ten Tuesday(9)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.

This week’s theme is books that we read because they were either recommended to us or because we saw a review (etc) by another blogger and it caught our interest! I would say that easily half of the books on my TBR are on there because of reviews I’ve read by other bloggers so this is a pretty easy list!

Also just one big thank you to all of these wonderful bloggers who recommended me these books or just wrote some fantastically convincing reviews! I will link up each blogger so you can check them out as well!

10.) Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Recommended By: Everyone

Are there any of you out there who haven’t read this yet? I feel like there’s very few of us who haven’t read this entire series and it is easily one of the most popular YA series out there. I feel like it’s on everyone’s lists and everyone recommends it! So I finally gave in and gave it a whirl and wasn’t too impressed, please don’t kill me. I am looking to try the second book though and see if it will grab my attention a little more.

You can read my full review of “Throne of Glass” here.

9.) Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake

Recommended By: Karen via Goodreads

This is another pretty popular book that I saw many good reviews for and the main one being by Karen on Goodreads, her review definitely convinced me to give this book a go. Plus I love horror books so I didn’t need much convincing.

You can read my full review of “Anna Dressed in Blood” here.

8.) Daughters Unto Devils by Amy Lukavics

Recommended By: Faye @ The Social Potato

Like I said it doesn’t take much to convince me to read a horror book but it definitely helps when it gets a great, well-thought out review. I hadn’t really heard about this book until I say Faye’s book too so I love coming across reviews that introduce me to a completely new book!

7.) The Monstrumologist by Rick Yancey

Recommended By: Vane @ Books With Chemistry

This is an instance where I wanted to read a book based 100% on a review. Vane wrote such a convincing, well thought out, and lengthy review that I wanted to get my hands on this book straight away and it lived up to expectations too!

You can read my full review of “The Monstrumologist” here.

6.) Slasher Girls & Monster Boys stories selected by April Genevieve Tucholke

Recommended By: Emily Mae @ The Book Geek

Usually I don’t go for anthology books at al but Emily Mae’s excellent, thorough review really got me curious and I’m glad I picked this book up because it was excellent and VERY creepy! Basically every single story was excellent which is pretty rare with so many stories grouped together.

You can read my full review of “Slasher Girls & Monster Boys” here.

5.) The Outliers by Kimberly McCreight

The Outliers (The Outliers, #1)

Recommended By: Michelle @ Book Adventures

I had heard about this book before but read Michelle’s review and it definitely caught my interest. I love a good YA mystery/thriller but sadly this one wasn’t my cup of tea. (I would link Michelle’s review but I couldn’t find it on her website).

4.) Through The Woods by Emily Carroll

Through the Woods

Recommended By: Ashley Lynn @ Dreaming Through Literature

When I was looking for more graphic novels to read I was creeping through all of Ashley’s graphic novel reviews and found this little gem. It’s a series of very creepy stories and is an excellent and quick graphic novel!

You can read my full review of “Through The Woods” here.

3.) Welcome To The Dark House by Laurie Faria Stolarz

Welcome to the Dark House (Dark House, #1)

Recommended By: Lauren @ Wonderless Reviews

Lauren recommended this to me because of our mutual interest over horror books and I said I was looking for more to add to my TBR and this was one of them! Luckily I recommended it to my library and they got it and thus I got a chance to read it and I must say it is an excellent read for any horror movie fan as it plays out like a classic slasher film!

2.) Hyperbole and a Half by Allie Brosh

Hyperbole and a Half: Unfortunate Situations, Flawed Coping Mechanisms, Mayhem, and Other Things That Happened

Recommended By: Ariana @ The Quirky Book Nerd

This was 1 of 2 books recommended to me by my blogging buddy Ariana and I absolutely LOVED this one, it was hilarious and an overall amazing book! Why didn’t I read this sooner?

You can read my full review of “Hyperbole and a Half” here.

1.) Nimona by Noelle Stevenson

Nimona

Recommended By: Ariana @ The Quirky Book Nerd

The 2nd of the 2 books Ariana recommended to me that I have read so far! “Nimona” is such a wonderful book and the BEST of the graphic novels I have read.

You can read my full review of “Nimona” here.

Yay! Finding posts from your blog in my reader is such a delightful surprise 🙂 My blog had some technical issues so that’s probably why the review of The Outliers just disappeared! I still have to read Nimona and Hyperbole and a Half – You’ve probably indirectly recommended them to me a few times already!

      Aww thank you Michelle!
And technical issues, that really stinks. I was wondering why I couldn’t find your review!
When you finally get around to both of those books (Nimona and Hyperbole) I can’t wait to read your reviews on both of them! 🙂

There’s quite a few on here I haven’t heard of before, I’ll have to add them to my list. I’m definitely going to check out your review of Throne of Glass – I’m in the process of writing a review for the second one (which made me cry) and I really, really hope you enjoy it. It’s a lot tighter, with more action and tension than the first one. I also LOVE Nimona. I read it while it was still a weekly webcomic, and totally snagged a signed copy last year at Small Press Expo. She’s such a sweetie IRL!

Thank you! I hope I’ll enjoy “Crown of Midnight” as well everyone says it gets better so I’m crossing my fingers.
Jealous of the signed copy of “Nimona” it’s such an excellent graphic novel! 🙂

I have yet to read anything written by Sarah J. Maas, however, ACOTAR is on my fall TBR.

It’s not just you! I’ve only read book one and wasn’t that impressed, no need to be nervous because if you do or don’t like it there are people that fall on both sides! 🙂
Yay, I love Nimona! I hope you enjoy it!

Maybe I should have put Throne of Glass on my list this week too. I read it for basically the same reason you did; because everyone and their brother said it was amazing. I liked the first book a lot, but the series has kind of lost me, so you’re not alone in not having read all the books!

    Great list! 🙂

Thank goodness it isn’t just me! It’s a series I’m just not really sure about…people say it gets better and some say it doesn’t so I’m kind of meh about the whole thing. I’ll probably continue to see for myself though. 🙂

I just reviewed Throne of Glass after everyone telling me I had to read it. I was surprised how much I liked it after reading so many mixed reviews.

There definitely are a lot of mixed reviews, I rated it right in the middle because I wasn’t too sure about it. Glad you enjoyed it though! 🙂

Throne of Glass is seriously everywhere and a ton of people are recommending it. And it’s true that there aren’t that many people who aren’t caught up with the series. (Or so it seems anyway.) I’m one of those people, I have only read the first book and The Assassin’s Blade. I do hope to continue with the series in the near future though. 🙂
I think (nearly) all of the books I read are recommendations, either from blogs or booktubers. XD

I know right? You and I are in the same boat with Throne of Glass, I do hope to continue with it as well though since everyone says it gets better after book one!
I agree with you, pretty much over half of my books are on my TBR because I’ve seen them floating around the book community! 🙂

Yeah, everyone says that the second book is amazing! And I’m really exited to see why they think that. I have heard some problematic things about the rest of the series though, but I’ll see about that when I get to those books. XD

Hyperbole and a half ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ LOVE LOVE LOVE her comics!! Haven't read Nimona, but I know my graphic novel-reading friends adore it. I still haven't read Throne of Glass, but my co-worker read them all and says book 1 was alright, but the sequels really up the game and make the series a must read!

Yes! Her comics are absolutely hilarious I love them as well and I can’t believe it took me so long to find them!
I’m happy to find someone else who hasn’t read the Throne of Glass series and I’ve heard similar things, that the series gets better after the first one. 🙂

That’s OK! You and I are in the same boat still because I haven’t read any of the other books.
And I hope you find some to add to your TBR that sound good to you! I’m the same way with getting books also, they sit forever on my shelves too! 🙂

I’m one of those seemingly few people who haven’t read throne of glass yet. It does seem like everyone has and I’ll probably cave if I ever see it on offer lol.

I was as well and gave in to see what they hype was about. I got it for $0.99 on the Kindle so I said why not and gave it a try! So it does go on sale pretty cheap sometimes! 🙂

I loved Through The Woods and Nimona SO much!! Have you read Lumberjanes? It’s an ongoing series, but it’s wonderful and if you liked Nimona I think you’d like that too 😀 And I am one of those people who hasn’t read Throne of Glass. I’m going to try next month because I want to see what all the hype is about. I’m not sure if I’ll like it though, but we’ll see haha. I really need to read Slasher Girls & Monster Boys and Daughters Unto Devils! Also, I’m happy to see Welcome to the Dark House on here! I love recommending people books even if it can make me anxious.

I think I read one issue of Lumberjanes but I just want to grt a hold of a whole bunch at once haha what I read was cute and I definitely like Noelle Stevenson’s style.
I hope you like both Slasher Girls and Daughters (I’m lazy and abbreviating) I thought they were both super creepy! And thank you so much for recommending Welcome to the dark House! I get anxious about recs as well but everyone in the community is so nice and respectful even if they didn’t like the book! 🙂
