July TBR

Top Ten Tuesday(69)

Right when I was thinking I was getting better about sticking to my TBRs my June TBR happened……. I am so sorry June TBR! However, I’m going to shoot a little lower this month in the hopes that I can actually not be a huge disappointment! Yay!

Dreamfall by Amy Plum

Dreamfall (Dreamfall #1)

This book is about a bunch of teens suffering from insomnia who signed up for an experiment to cure them. However, there’s a malfunction that sends them all into a shared dreamscape full of their worst nightmares.

So this honestly sounds a little bit like horror but also maybe thriller or sci-fi too? Kind of confusing but I’m currently reading this one and so far it’s pretty good!

Want by Cindy Pon

Want (Want, #1)

This book actually really wasn’t on my radar at all until I finally read the synopsis and saw all of the glowing reviews! It’s about a futuristic/dystopian society where the rich buy special suits to protect them from pollution and disease and Jason Zhou is going to do anything it takes to stop the corruption: including infiltrating the international Jin Corporation and destroying it from within.

Sounds badass, honestly!

Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller

Daughter of the Pirate King (Daughter of the Pirate King, #1)

I’m a little on the fence with this one because on the one hand I want to read it because PIRATES but also I don’t want to read it because I don’t want to be disappointed if the piracy doesn’t live up to my expectations. However, my library got a copy so here I am ready to see if it’s worth it!

Alex + Ada, Vol. 1 by Jonathon Luna and Sarah Vaughn

Alex + Ada, Vol. 1

I’ve heard a lot about this graphic novel so I decided to pick it up at the library as well. It’s about a man and an android and how she turns out to be more than just a robot. Graphic novels go by pretty quickly so I figured why not?

Pretty Deadly, Vol. 1: The Shrike by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Emma Rios

Pretty Deadly, Vol. 1: The Shrike

I found this graphic novel when I was looking for more graphic novels to borrow from the library. It’s the origin story of Death’s daughter and it’s a bit of a western. Seems cool enough!

Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde

Queens of Geek

This was the ONE book I really wanted to get to on last month’s TBR and didn’t but I WILL read it this month no matter what!

Then I’ll read this since I got it from the library as well but I also might not get time:

Broken Prince by Erin Watt

Broken Prince (The Royals, #2)

My library FINALLY got a copy of “Broken Prince” so I couldn’t help but pick it up, hopefully I will have time to get to it!

Are any of these books on your TBR?

Have you read any of these, what did you think?

What are you planning on reading this month?

Let me know in the comments!

Interested to see what you think of Want. I’ve been seeing the book everywhere and the premise sounds super interesting

Same here, it’s one of the reasons I borrowed it is because out of nowhere it’s everywhere! It definitely does sound interesting, hopefully it’s worth the hype! 🙂

I actually have Pretty Deadly here to begin soon! I am curious to see how it fairs. I also plan to tackle Daughter of the Pirate King in the near future, but like you I am afraid of being disappointed because pirates must be done right! Happy reading 🙂

Hopefully we both enjoy Pretty Deadly! It was just one of those graphic novels I stumbled upon and thought sounded interesting!
I’m actually really nervous about Daughter of the Pirate King and honestly if it even starts to be disappointing with the pirates I’m going to DNF it, I have lost all patience for YA books promising pirates and not delivering!
      Thanks Danielle, Happy reading! 🙂

I haven’t read many YA titles with Pirates so I am hopeful 🙂 Although I think Colleen Oakes portrayal of Hook in the Wendy Darling has set a standard, so time will tell.

There’s so much hype around Want right now! I can’t wait to see some more reviews on it. I’m still not sold if it’s something I would enjoy. Daughter of the Pirate King is one I really want to pick up!

I know it’s crazy! I hadn’t really heard of Want at all and suddenly it’s everywhere!
I’m also hoping Daughter of the Pirate King lives up to expectations as well! 🙂

I really want to read Daughter of the Pirate King as well, though I have the same concerns as you. I love pirates, but I don’t want to be disappointed by that book. I’ll look forward to hearing your thoughts on it, once you read it! 😀
I hadn’t heard anything about Want either, until a few days ago when I started seeing many glowing reviews of it. The synopsis sounds very exiting and I definitely need to read that book some time in the future!
Good luck with your TBR and happy reading! 🙂

I’m going to take one for the team with Daughter of the Pirate King, haha! Honestly though if I get a whiff of disappointing pirates I will DNF this so fast, I’ve lost all patience with pirates in YA lately!
Same here with Want. I hadn’t heard anything about it and suddenly it’s all over the place with great reviews!
      Thanks Anna, happy reading! 🙂

Yes, graphic novels go by so quickly. Sometimes I don’t even realize I’m almost done. These 2 seem interesting! Queens of Geek is also on my TBR, but not sure when I’ll read it.

Definitely, I’ll be reading and going through a graphic novel and suddenly it’s over and I’m dying for more haha!
Hopefully we both enjoy Queens of Geek when we get to it! I’m going to force myself down to read it this month since I didn’t last month! 🙂

Haha, yes. It’s too much when the next book isn’t out or you just can’t get it.

I hope so too! There are still a few books on my summer TBR that I haven’t read yet, so I’m hoping I can read them within the next month or so.
