Authors I Can’t Believe I Haven’t Read Yet!

Top Ten Tuesday(88)

Untitled design(25)

Of course there are always a ton of authors that I need to read but these are just a few with MULTIPLE books that I’d like to give a try! I also have no excuses for myself regarding these authors either, I even have some of these books! These are all in order of how you see the author’s picture represented (so it explains which is which below!).

Basically this is one big “shame on me” post!

my page divider

Tahereh Mafi

Books I’d Like To Try: Furthermore & Shatter Me

I’m actually not 100% sure if I’d enjoy “Shatter Me” or not but it’s a pretty hyped book and everyone sings its praises so I figure I can give it a shot. I do have a copy of “Furthermore” on its way to me so I’ll be reading that first, hopefully it’s as amazing as everyone says it is! Then I can decide if I’d like to read “Shatter Me” or not.

Libba Bray

Books I’d Like To Try: A Great and Terrible Beauty, The Diviners, & Beauty Queens

There are honestly so many books by Libba Bray that I’d love to read! I have copies of all of these except “Beauty Queens” but I’d really like that one as well! I think I’m especially excited to give “The Diviners” a go since everyone seems to like it and it seems pretty creepy.

Brandon Sanderson

Books I’d Like To Try: The Final Empire, The Way of Kings, Steelheart, and The Rithmatist

This is probably the author I’m most ashamed of myself for not having read yet, honestly. I’m a HUGE fan of fantasy and yet I haven’t read anything by Brandon Sanderson yet? And also I have copies of his books and still haven’t read any? Shame on me! Of course I hear NOTHING but wonderful things about his books so I really do need to read one of them here sooner rather than later…..

Morgan Rhodes

Books I’d Like To Try: Falling Kingdoms & A Book of Spirits and Thieves

I have copies of both of these books and you’d THINK I’d have read one by now but nope. One of the most popular YA Fantasy series and I’m just sitting over reading everything else.

Julie Kagawa

Books I’d Like To Try: The Iron King, The Immortal Rules, & Talon

I actually REALLY want to read any of her books because people really seem to enjoy them and they have pretty unique concepts. Fairies, vampires (except done differently, not the run of the mill paranormal romances vampires), and dragons that turn into people. Count me in….eventually.

Rainbow Rowell

Books I’d Like To Try: Fangirl, Carry On, & Attachments

I’m always a little on the fence when it comes to Rainbow Rowell because I’m not sure if I’ll actually enjoy her writing. I’d have to say if I was going to try any of her books it’d be one of these three.

Samantha Shannon

Books I’d Like To Try: The Bone Season (Entire Trilogy)

Okay so Samantha Shannon is probably the only author on here who doesn’t have multiple books/series that I want to read but “The Bone Season” is a pretty big deal and I’d really love to give it a try! I’m all for anything with a unique magic system.

Elise Kova

Books I’d Like To Try: Air Awakens & The Alchemists of Loom

This is actually one of those YA fantasy series that’s popular but not super hyped, if that makes sense? Both are fairly cheap on Amazon Kindle and they definitely sound interesting enough to give a go.

Cinda Williams Chima

Books I’d Like To Try: The Demon King & The Warrior Heir

Big player in YA/Middle-Grade Fantasy and I see her books/series around a lot so of course I want to give her a try. I have copies of both of these books and I just need to get to one of them here soon!

Alexandra Bracken

Books I’d Like To Try: The Darkest Minds, Passenger, & The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding

I actually have a copy of “Passenger” and just haven’t read it because after all of the hype I’m terrified that it will be slow and boring. I think I’m most excited to try “The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding” now since it involves deals with demons.

Ruta Sepetys

Books I’d Like To Try: Salt to the Sea, Between Shades of Grey, & Out of the Easy

Tons of people rave about Sepetys’s books but I’m usually not a huge fan of historical fiction. However, I’m definitely ready to give her a try especially “Out of the Easy” since it’s in 1950’s New Orleans and that just really piques my interest.

Adam Silvera

Books I’d Like To Try: More Happy Than Not, History Is All You Left Me, & They Both Die At The End

As you all know I’m not much of a contemporary reader and especially not a romance reader, however, Adam Silvera’s books get a lot of praise and they’re diverse. That’s all I need for once, I’m willing to give one of his books a go!

A Rainbow Rowell virgin?! I didn’t think they existed! My favourite of hers was Fangirl, I found it really relatable as I used to write fan-fiction as a teenager, but it was a cute story. You also need to read Libba Bray’s The Diviners, I loved those books & I can’t wait for the third book to come out soon! 🙂

I know! I can’t believe I haven’t read anything by her yet. I have to say of all her books that Fangirl is the one that draws my attention the most, probably because I feel like it would be relatable for me as well!
And I do desperately need to read The Diviners, I was thinking maybe I could squeeze it in next month for Halloween! It’s a book that has been sitting a shamefully long time on my shelf! 🙂

Ha, well I do hope you read it and enjoy Fangirl! 🙂
Ooo that would be such a good idea! I hope you can squeeze it in!

I can’t believe I haven’t read Adam Silvera either. His books sound exactly like the kind of books I enjoy and I have seen so many great things about them!

I adore Julie Kagawa’s writing!! The Immortal Rules in my favourite!!

Glad I’m not alone though! His books really do sound good and I’m not usually a contemporary reader! Plus, like you said, there’s plenty of hype.

Glad you loved The Immortal Rules since that’s the one that I actually own! I’m excited to read it! 🙂

Ruta Sepetys is a fantastic author and I honestly can’t recommend her books enough!! She’s one of my all-time favorites.
I haven’t read most of the authors on your list, so don’t feel too bad, haha. I’m really hoping to read Adam Silvera VERY soon, considering I own More Happy Than Not and just took out They Both Die at the End from the library today! All the praise that he gets from fellow bloggers really makes me want to see what the hype is about!

Glad to hear it Kourtni, I really do hear nothing but good things about her books and her writing. I’m not usually one for historical fiction but I really do want to give one of her books I try.
Which one would you recommend I read first?

Glad I’m also not the only one who hasn’t read a few of these, haha! I really want to read both of those Silvera books especially with the way everyone talks about them! I can’t wait to see what you think of They Both Die at the End! 🙂

I think it’d depend on what kind of historical fiction you want to read. If you want something with a bit more of a contemporary feel to it (which might be better for you since you don’t read a ton of historical fiction), then I’d recommend checking out Out of the Easy. But if you want something that will teach you something and/or make you cry, then I’d recommend Between Shades of Gray or Salt to the Sea. Both explore lesser-known parts of WWII. All three of her books are excellent though so you really can’t go wrong regardless of which you choose, haha.

I’m glad you say Out of the Easy since that’s the one that sounded most interesting to me! Hopefully I can read all of her books though since they do all sound fantastic even if I’m not big on historical fiction. Thanks Kourtni! 🙂

I LOVED The Diviners – it’s one of my favorites of the year so far! I can’t believe I haven’t read anything from Cinda Williams Chima yet, I think about picking up her books all the time, but for some reason I keep grabbing other things.

So glad you loved The Diviners! I’ve had a copy for SO LONG and I’m hoping I can maybe squeeze it in next month for Halloween! 🙂
Same here with Cinda Williams Chima…I actually own two of her books and they are both the first book in their respective series so I honestly have no excuses as to why I haven’t read one yet!

Like you I haven’t read a Brandon Sanderson book either!! I plan to get to the Mistborn trilogy this winter though. Ruta Sepetys is just amazing! I love everything she’s written. Rainbow Rowell is really hit or miss with me. My favourite of hers is probably Attachments

Glad I’m not the only one, I feel like everyone has read Brandon Sanderson! Hope you enjoy the Mistborn trilogy, I think when I get around to it that is where I’ll start as well!
That’s great to hear, which Sepetys book is your favorite or which would you recommend starting with?
I kind of feel like I may be similar with Rowell’s writing but I thought Attachments sounded like it’d be interesting so glad you liked that one! 🙂

I think my favourite Sepetys book is Between Shades of Gray. Her other one, Out of the Easy was also fantastic and set in New Orleans which was wonderful!
Attachments was cutesy and adorable. I didn’t enjoy fangirl at all – I think I prefer her adult writing myself

I’ve only read two on this list – Libba Bray and Rainbow Rowell. I’ve been a fan of Libba Bray since high school (so at least ten years), and love The Diviners and A Great and Terrible Beauty. Beauty Queens is good, but I don’t think it’s a good place to start, since it’s very different from her other work.

Yeah I have heard mixed things on Beauty Queens but I think I will probably start with The Diviners since I have a copy, everyone loves it, and I can squeeze it in for Halloween! 🙂

have to admit I haven’t read nothing by some of those authors😅. My TBR is just to big *whoops*.
I adored Fangirl and the Shatter Me trilogy, though. I hope you’ll like them too when you pick them up!

Well at least we aren’t alone! I think Fangirl will be the book I try by Rainbow Rowell first so I’m glad to hear you loved it and I will more than likely try out the Shatter Me series here eventually! Thank you! 🙂

I HIGHLY recommend Julie Kagawa’s books–she is amazing! I would also recommend Tahereh Mafi, except that her writing style is hit/miss. She uses poetic prose in a way that you will either love it or you will hate it, but rest assured that poetic prose isn’t her only style, and you’ll no doubt get to see more of her skills as a writer in the next Shatter Me books that are going to be released next year.

I don’t know if you have read Laurie Anderson’s works, but if you haven’t then you REALLY need to. She is by far my favorite author of all time.

That’s great! I have been meaning to read something by Kagawa forever, I do have a copy of The Immortal Rules though so I will probably read that one first.
I do like the more purple/poetic prose style of writing so maybe I will enjoy Mafi’s writing style, I can hope anyways! Thanks for the heads up though, it’s good to know her writing differs just in case I don’t enjoy it!
I have read only “Speak” by her but haven’t tried any others, I will have to see what else she has thanks for the recommendation! 🙂

I haven’t read anything by Alexandra Bracken, Ruta Sepetys, and Adam Silvera either. Everyone always talks about books written by these authors, and I want to see what all of the hype is about.

I don’t blame you for being on the fence about Rainbow Rowell. I tried to read Fangirl and while I enjoyed the writing style, I couldn’t get into it. I really need to try something else by her, because I might have just been in a weird reading mood. Also, you need to read some Brandon Sanderson ASAP! He’s just awesome.

Same here, they are definitely some pretty hyped up authors! I don’t normally read their genres though but maybe their books will change my mind.

Yeah, Rainbow Rowell is one that I’m not sure if I’ll actually like or not. I think Fangirl is the one I’d try if I was going to try one first.
I DO need to read something by Sanderson I know! I’m going to probably pick up the Final Empire by him first, it’s just a matter of when I’ll squeeze it into my TBR! 🙂

A couple of the authors you listed I couldn’t get on the band wagon after reading but I at least did try them. I won’t sway you either way by listing their names. However you MUST read Brandon Sanderson.. immediately.. I loved his Mistborn Trilogy and read Steelheart but haven’t gotten to the other two yet. ❤ Maybe you could put one author on your TBR a month. I also absolutely love Rainbow Rowell but she is one of those authors you either love or don't like at all. If you read her books I suggest Fangirl or Attachments first.. then Carry On. You won't get Carry On as well if you read it before Fangirl I think.

I knooooow I really do need to read Brandon Sanderson, and being the big fantasy fan that I am I KNOW I will adore his books. I just need to find some time here to squeeze one in before the end of the year! I would probably start with The Final Empire too.
I kind of got the vibe from people’s discussions about Rainbow Rowell, that she’s kind of hit or miss. Still I’d like to see where I fall, and those are the two I thought sounded interesting. I know Carry On is a kind of spin off of Fangirl so I would start there and thanks for the tips and recs! 🙂
