Soooo with the holiday weekend last week I forgot to schedule this post but here I am…a week later which is fine. This won’t be a very exciting post because I hit a patch in my TBR where a lot of books I REALLY want to read are, so I’ll be keeping more than I’ll be getting rid of!
If you missed my other posts of Down the TBR Hole here they are:
- Down The TBR Hole #1
- Down The TBR Hole #2
- Down The TBR Hole #3
- Down The TBR Hole #4
- Down The TBR Hole #5
- Down The TBR Hole #6
This was “created” by Lost in a Story!
The Rules:
- Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
- Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!
Current TBR: 781
Book #61
The Young Elites by Marie Lu
Date Added: June 29th, 2015
I wasn’t a big fan of Lu’s other book (and series) “Legend” so I’ve been a little leery of giving her other books a try. However, the premise for this one sounds interesting so I figure I will give it a try.
The Judgement: Keep
Book #62
Best Served Cold by Joe Abercrombie
Date Added: June 30th, 2015
This is set in the same world/universe as “The Blade Itself” which is also on my TBR but I figure I will read the first book and see if I like it before I go getting myself into the whole series. (Why did I add it in the first place? I have no clue!)
The Judgement: Go
Book #63
The Archived by Victoria Schwab
Date Added: June 30th, 2015
Of course I want to read another of Schwab’s books, it’s Schwab. Plus I like the idea of a library that keeps history in the form of dead bodies, I guess I’m just morbid like that.
The Judgement: Keep
Book #64
Antigoddess by Kendare Blake
Date Added: June 30th, 2015
I adored Blake’s other book “Anna Dressed in Blood” so I wanted to add more of her books plus the synopsis with Greek gods sounds really interesting.
The Judgement: Keep
Book #65
Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta
Date Added: July 2nd, 2015
This series has come very recommended from other fantasy fans so I added it because I am a sucker for fantasy books.
The Judgement: Keep
Book #66
Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine
Date Added: July 2nd, 2015
Library books and books about books are my jam, but what bookworm doesn’t love that? The cover and spine of the hardcover are gorgeous on this book and the premise of the Great Library of Alexandria surviving sounds really, really good.
The Judgement: Keep
Book #67
Wake of Vultures by Lila Bowen
Date Added: July 6th, 2015
I originally loved the idea of this western book with the half Native American main character who also dresses like a boy but I just don’t think I’m ever going to read it.
The Judgement: Go
Book #68
The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins
Date Added: July 8th, 2015
I already own a copy of this book and read part of it and it was very, very……interesting. It’s kind of weird but in a good way that made me want to continue just so I could know what the heck is going on. I’ll finish it eventually.
The Judgement: Keep
Book #69
The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa
Date Added: July 9th, 2015
I’ve actually heard quite a few good things about this book/series and I got it for $0.99 on Kindle so I can’t really go wrong there! After the slew of Vampire books back in my high school days I didn’t think I’d want to read anymore of them but this one sounds like it’s more creative.
The Judgement: Keep
Book #70
The Iron King by Julie Kagawa
Date Added: July 9th, 2015
Another Kagawa book people seem to adore and hype up, I also don’t read that many fairy books so I want to give it a try.
The Judgement: Keep
Have you read any of these? What did you think?
Do you think I should have kept any of these books?
Do you agree with any of my keeps or discards?
Let me know in the comments!
I read The Young Elites this month and I really enjoyed it. I’m about to start the second one, the characters are wonderful. I really liked The Archived, the idea is super original and has a rather dark vibe, but I enjoyed the second one alot more, is incredible. And finally, The Immortal Rules is one of my favorite trilogy, I really recommend it, I think it’s the best vampire story and also has a lot of action, I just love it lol. I hope that maybe you try one of these books at some point. Happy Reading Month 💕😄

I’m glad to hear you enjoyed The Young Elites! As long as a book has good characters I think I can mange so that’s also good to hear!
I really, really need to read The Archived, most of Schwab’s books get that little bit of darkness in there and I love it! Good to know about the sequel too so I’ll definitely have to read both now!
I’ve hard lots of good things about The Immortal Rules so I’m glad to hear you highly recommend it as well, just reading the synopsis had me thinking it isn’t your run of the mill YA vampire story!
Thank you! And happy reading as well! 🙂

I read the Young Elites recently and am currently reading Rose Society. They are a lot better to me than the Legend series. It’s more darker wise and has more detailed characters. I have found it has quite a bit of action as well. I have read the Iron Fey series and I did love them, they will start out kinda of slow but they do improve with each book. It was well developed and a fun read for me.

That’s good to hear since, as I mentioned, I wasn’t the biggest fan of Legend so that makes me more excited to try The Young Elites! And if there’s some things I love in a book it’s darkness and action!
Also glad you enjoyed the Iron Fey series that’s good to know about the series as a whole I will have to keep that in mind if I find the first book a bit slow, that they get better! 🙂

Although I’m a big fan of Marie Lu’s other series, Legend, I didn’t really like The Young Elites. However, my friend read the second book and said the series gets so much better and that you just have to power through the first one.

Good to know I’ll have to keep that in mind if I find myself bored with the first book! 🙂

I really need to read The Young Elites and Antigoddess!! I honestly need to do this with my GR TBR because it’s an absolute mess. I made it over 6 years ago and I thought it was a good idea to add every book ever to it, haha.

That’s exactly why I’m doing this is because I found so many books I wanted to get rid of and just decided to make posts of it, haha. I did the same thing when I first got onto Goodreads, adding everything!
It’d be fun to look at your TBR and see what you were keeping and getting rid of though Lauren! 🙂

Many many keeps 🙂 I do have Ink and Bone, Young Elites on my shelf as well and want to read them soon. I was not really impressed with the first 100 pages of Warcross, so I’m hoping her other books will keep my interest…

Good luck with Ink and Bone and The Young Elites I do hope you have a better time with Young Elites than you did with Warcross. I’m hoping I enjoy it as well since I didn’t really like her other book Legend.

The only one I’ve read is The Young Elites and I wasn’t a big fan of them to be honest. I don’t know if it has actually put me off wanting to try Legend or even Warcross, both of which I’ve heard decent things about. I’ve also had Ink and Bone sat on my shelf for ages. It sounds like a book I would like but I’ve never had the motivation to pick it up. Maybe that will change soon!

Yeah that’s iffy, I hear nothing but good things about all of her books but since I didn’t really like Legend I don’t know if it’s a me thing or what. I’d say borrow a copy if you can that way you play it safe if you do or don’t like it!
Hope you enjoy Ink and Bone it definitely does sound like a good book! 🙂

Yeah, I’ll see if my library has it. I’m not holding out much hope as their YA stock is a little pitiful but there is no harm in looking.
On the other hand, I should definitely think about reading Ink and Bone. A couple of my bookworm friends have been telling me to read it for the last couple of years so I think it’s time I heed their advice.

I love the cover of Best Served Cold! It does make me want to add it to my own TBR 🙂
I wasn’t a big fan of Marie Lu’s Legend either but The Young Elites is still on my TBR too!.

I agree, that’s the newer cover I believe and it is really neat looking!
Good to know I’m not the only one who wasn’t a big fan of Legend, it seems that’s one that everyone loves. Hopefully we both enjoy The Young Elites more! 🙂
