Top Ten Tuesday: 2018 Bookish Goals & Resolutions

Top Ten Tuesday(9)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.

It has now been moved over to That Artsy Reader Girl.

So I always think I DON’T have any real goals or resolutions but once I sat down and started thinking I realized I did actually have a couple things I’d like to accomplish with my blog and reading this year!

10.) Complete my 2018 Beat the Backlist TBR

I decided to FINALLY join this challenge this year as I have waaay too many backlist books I need to read, so I figured this was a good way to get some off my TBR! My goal is 60 books and I’m hoping to knock them all off, I’m on team “Novel Knights” too by the way.

You can check out my full 2018 TBR here.

9.) Complete my Goodreads Reading Challenge

I do this challenge every year and every year I try to read more than the previous year, I find it helps me concentrate on my reading more when I have a goal like this. This year I’m trying to read 100 books so I’m crossing my fingers because that’s A LOT!

8.) Get more into #Bookstagram!

I have always admired people who take all of those fabulous bookish pictures on Instagram and I always felt I couldn’t be “that good” and my anxiety definitely doesn’t help but THIS YEAR I’m not going to think negatively of myself like that! I’m going to try and get more into taking bookish pictures and uploading them on Instagram this year because it’s super fun and I actually really enjoy it!

P.S. I’m posting a few here because I’m very proud and it helps my anxiety a bit to be proud of them and show them off!

You can follow me here, if you want!

7.) More Buddy Reads!

Why? Because I feel really awkward when interacting with my blogging friends and followers sometimes and I feel like doing buddy reads could help me out with that! Plus buddy reading is fun!

6.) More Blog & Social Media Interaction

This sort of goes hand in hand with #7 but I’d really like to interact more and not let my anxiety get the better of me. I really enjoy talking with all of you and I want to get better at commenting and interacting on my other bookish platforms such as Twitter and Instagram!

5.) Knock Books of my TBR!

So of course with both of the reading challenges I’m doing this year I’m hoping to knock some books off of my TBR! I’m really wanting to read more this year and drop my TBR down a significant amount, this also includes my purging with the “Down the TBR Posts”. It’ll feel nice to clean it up a bit!

4.) Read More Books Outside of my Comfort Zone

Obviously it’s hard for everyone to read things outside their comfort zone but it can also be a great way to find new reads and broaden your horizon. For example I’m not a fan of contemporaries or romance but I could also be missing out on some fantastic books (like “The Hate U Give” which is amazing and I could have missed out!), so I’m looking forward to reading some books in those genres this year.

If you guys have any recommendations for great YA contemporaries or romances for people who normally don’t like those, let me know in the comments! I’d appreciate it!

3.) Schedule More Blog Posts

I’ve been getting better at this and hope to continue to improve as well since it helps reduce the stress of writing and posting something every day. I also like planning posts a lot more than flying by the seat of my pants…which is what I do now.

2.) Follow My Monthly TBRs

Another aspect of blogging that I have been getting better at! I used to be really terrible about not following the monthly TBRs I set for myself and just doing a lot of mood reading but I’ve actually started to follow them and want to get better at it too. It’s nice to know what I’ll be reading for the month!

1.) Finish a Series for Once!

I am notoriously bad at starting a series and then never finishing it. For some reason I just like starting them better and sometimes I’ll make it to the second book and THEN never finish it. I’m awful. However, this year I’m planning on actually finishing at least ONE series! Hopefully it will be the Red Rising Trilogy (which now has a 4th book sooooo it doesn’t really count anymore?), The Raven Cycle, Daughter of Smoke and Bone Trilogy, or all of them ( I hope all of them).

Bookstagram is wonderful (if you can avoid the whole follow/unfollow situation) and you can have so much fun with it. Good luck with all of your goals for this year!

Thank you! And yes I’m discovering that Bookstagram is very wonderful, but I also know what you mean with the follow/unfollow thing that’s kind of a bummer!

Great list; I also want to start getting into Bookstagram more. Your photos are super lovely, though! I’m excited to see what else you post.

You have some good goals for 2018 😀 Getting books off my TBR is #1 on my list this year; I feel like last year I spent too much time getting distracted by other books, so this year I’m knocking it down… I have to say so far I think I’m doing pretty good, it doesn’t help that seeing my list filled with highlighter to mark I’ve read it encourages me to finish the list!
    P.S. I followed you on Instagram! 🙂

      Thank you!
I completely agree with you on the TBR goal, I got way too distracted with new releases last year too! So far so good, because I haven’t bought any new releases yet and it’s taking a frighteningly large amount of will power to do so, haha!
And thank you, I followed you back! 🙂

I’m trying to knock off backlist books too. My favorite contemporary authors are Morgan Matson and Robin Roe.

Omg your bookstagram photos are seriously gorgeous! ❤ I hope you'll continue to share more of them here in your blog as well. I'm not on Instagram but I love when people post some of their bookstagram pics in their blogs. 🙂
These are all great bookish goals and resolutions. Best of luck to you with each and every one of them.

Thank you so much! And I’d love to share more of my pictures here, thanks for the idea! Maybe just adding them into reviews etc. I’ll have to play around with ideas now. 🙂

Bookstagram is one of my goals for this year too. Your photos are wonderful! Any tips?
I’m also wanting to do more buddy reading this year! Quite a few of your beat the backlist books are on my tbr as well if you are looking for a buddy 🙂

That’s great and thank you so much! I’m not sure how helpful I’ll be with Bookstagram tips because I’m so new, haha! If there’s anything in particular you’d like to know feel free to ask me! I find that simple props are easiest to use such as candles or mugs, I just use a white piece of foam board as my backdrop and it really makes the colors pop and of course fake flowers are great too!

And of course I’m open to buddy reads too, just let me know if you’d like to do one with any of those books! 🙂

Sounds great. Well I really need to read Daughter of the Pirate King, Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda, Wonder Woman Warbringer, Warcross, Star-touched Queen, Falling Kingdoms & Three Dark Crowns. So any of those would work for me 🙂

Out if those one torn between Daughter of the Pirate King and Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda! Do you prefer one over the other and then how do you want to communicate during the buddy read? 😁

Both are great for me. Maybe Simon since there is the movie coming out? Her other book was pretty good too.I’m open on communication, do you have a preference?

I’m also looking to do some buddy reads if you’d be interested to do one with me, I’m sure we could find something we both would like to read! Great post, I can definitely relate to many of your goals 🖤

Great post! I have similar goals for this year. I checked out your TBR post and if you want we could do a buddy read! I’m sure we wouldn’t have problems picking a title; we could even do one that’s on your list 🖤

I think getting into Bookstagram was my resolution last year and I’ve pretty much miserably failed… although now that I’ve been there, done that, I kinda think that the whole thing isn’t for me even though I do love seeing pretty pictures of pretty books. 😛

Great list, Heather, and good luck achieving them this year! #4 is also on my reading resolutions’ list.

Great goals for 2018. I share many of them with you especially Bookstagram. I decided to delete mine and start again this year and make a go of it. I’m loving it so far (only posted 2 photos) but your feed is amazing. I’m adoring your new pictures, your already achieving your goal ❤

Such great goals! I’m also participating in Beat the Backlist — so many books I need to read! I’m also terrible at finishing series — my goal last year was to finish some series and I feel like I hardly made a dent in them, so I’m continuing to work on that this year as well. Good luck and happy reading!

Thank you! There are waaaay too many books to read, hopefully we can get through a bunch of them this year though! I’m glad I’m not the only one not finishing series, haha, I don’t think I finished ANY last year so once again I hope we both can get through some! Good luck! 🙂
