Books I’ve Recently Added To My TBR

Top Ten Tuesday(16)

I did a post like this for Top Ten Tuesday earlier last year and another one two years ago, so I think it’s time to maybe do another one! I always think it’s fun to share books on our TBRs especially ones you’ve just added. These aren’t in any particular order.

Also I’m skipping a couple on here because they’re just the rest of series I have started and only added so I could keep track of my 2018 Beat the Backlist TBR.

The Armored Saint by Myke Cole

I blame Melanie for doing such an awesome review and making me want to read this ASAP! This is a novella about a girl who rebels against the Order whose job it is to kill anyone they suspect of using magic, which could potentially open portals and allow demons to travel through.

So basically Dragon Age. No seriously, this sounds almost exactly like the Templars and the Mages in the Dragon Age video games. Which I love and am obsessed with so therefore this book is also probably badass.

Heathen, Volume 1 by Natasha Alterici

A Viking woman, Valkyries, and corrupted gods? Sign me up! Plus I’m always looking for new, interesting graphic novels.

The Lantern’s Ember by Colleen Houck

This is a 2018 release scheduled for September. It’s about a boy who made a deal with the devil and is now sentenced to being a Lantern, a watchman who guards the portals to the Otherworld, which is crawling with monsters. However, he meets a young witch who slips past him in the company of a vampire and he must get them back over into our world.

I’m a little leery of Houck’s books since people have a lot of issues with her content (such as racist stereotypes) but I’m hoping this one is good because it sounds really neat. Plus that cover is amazing.

Everything Belongs To The Future by Penny Laurie

Another upcoming Tor novella but the description doesn’t tell me much. I think it’s comparable to the movie ‘In Time’ and maybe even the book “Everless” since it does say only the rich are able to live longer because they can afford it. Still sounds neat.

The Atrocities by Jeremy C. Shipp

I added these last two novellas because of Destiny, who received them for review. Her review for this one has me really excited to read it, it’s a gothic horror.

Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel

This is weird because I’ve owned this book for a while and didn’t realize I hadn’t added it on Goodreads. So I added it now!

The Lamb Will Slaughter the Lion by Margaret Killjoy

Another Tor novella that I saw that Melanie received for review and the cover really grabbed my attention! This is horror, which I can never get enough of, and is about a woman searching for clues about her friend’s suicide and ends up in the town of Freedom, where the residents have summoned a spirit to protect them.  However, she arrives right as the spirit turns on the summoners and she must fight to save the town.

Honestly, it sounds awesome plus the cover is really pretty.

Giant Days, Vol. 1 by John Allison

This feels like a graphic novel a lot of people have loved so I decided to give it a try, my library has a copy so I can just borrow it. I’m not sure how much I’ll like it since it’s contemporary though.

Let’s Talk About Love by Claire Kann

Normally I’m not a big fan of contemporaries but this one is a diverse read and actually sounds pretty good! It features an African American girl who is biromantic and also asexual, I don’t know how good the rep is yet but I’m keeping my eyes out for OwnVoices reviews!

Saga, Vol. 8 by Brian K. Vaughan

Because I love Saga!

Sorting through that TBR is going well isn’t it, get rid of one and add another 10! At least that’s how I keep managing it haha!
I’ve heard mixed things about Sleeping Giants so will look forward to you reading it and seeing how you find it!
