Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.
It has now been moved over to That Artsy Reader Girl.
This is actually really similar to the “Down The TBR Hole” posts that I have been doing so I’m basically just re-naming books for this! However, if you’d like to see what other books I’ve gotten rid of I’ll link the page to them below!
These books are in no particular order.
10.) Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
This was the kind of book/series that was popular during the Paranormal Romance phase of YA and that was a time in YA I’d like to forget about for the most part. It was not my thing so I don’t know why I ever bothered adding this one, plus “fallen angels” aren’t really something I absolutely love reading about.
9.) Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi
Another big phase in YA: dystopian. Once again, this book was really big during it’s respective phase in YA and I added it for that reason but I just don’t think I’ll ever read it. Dystopians tended to all blend together after a while anyways.
8.) I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore
My boyfriend actually really loved this series but I don’t think it’s for me.
7.) The Alchemyst: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel by Michael Scott
I got this book back before I ever had Goodreads or a blog and I just wandered around the bookstore looking for books to read. It was a popular series so I figured I’d buy the first book….and then never read it. I just lost all interest now.
6.) The Giver by Lois Lowry
Another classic and another dystopian. I just don’t think I’ll ever get to reading it, and I don’t mind.
5.) Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headley
This sounded like a really unique story but I don’t really enjoy slow books that rely on the overall atmosphere too much. I also think it might be a little too odd for me.
4.) Insurgent by Veronica Roth
I read “Divergent” when it first came out and liked it but didn’t love it, it’s been YEARS now and I just have no interest in continuing with the series.
3.) The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black
I tried reading this one and just couldn’t get into it, I’m also starting to think Holly Black’s writing just might not be for me because I really didn’t enjoy “The Darkest Part of the Forest” either.
2.) The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan
I’m done adding high fantasy books just because they’re popular or classics, I don’t have time to read every book that pops up.
1.) The Great Hunt by Wendy Higgins
I added this when it was still an upcoming release because it sounded interesting and the cover is gorgeous, however, I hear the romance is very prominent and overtakes the plot. So it’s probably not for me.
Have you read any of these books? What did you think?
Do you think I should have kept any of these books on my TBR?
What are some books you’re no longer interested in reading?
Let me know in the comments!

I enjoyed the I am number four, yet to finish the series. I am not sure about divergent as well. Great post

Thank you! Glad you’re enjoying the I Am Number Four series, as you can see I haven’t read it but my boyfriend really enjoyed the whole thing and he never reads so hopefully the books you still need to finish are just as good! π

I have read the whole Divergent trilogy, I wouldn’t recommend continuing. In my opinion the series got worse with every book. I unhauled at the end of 2017 a bunch of books I was no longer interested in, like the Throne of Glass series and The 5th Wave series.

Definitely glad I’m getting rid of Insurgent then! The books getting worse as they go seems to be the general consensus on here too! I don’t blame you for unhauling Throne of Glass, I read the first book and wasn’t impressed but I still have the 5th Wave on my TBR but I’m not too sure about it anymore either. π

I have read Throne of Glass as well and I also wasn’t impressed. Sarah J. Maas just isn’t for me. I take forever to finish her books and with the things I hqve heard about the Throne of Glass series, I am glad I gave up π

Honestly you’re not missing out on eye of the world- even as a fantasy fan I wasn’t keen on that one. Great job slimming down your tbr!

Thank you and glad to be reassured on getting rid of Eye of the World too! It makes me feel a lot better about it especially coming from another fantasy fan! π

You’re welcome! I’m glad π

I wasnβt a huge fan of the Giver or the Alchemyst. Great list!

Thank you! And glad I’m not missing out with either of those too! π

I LOVED THE GIVER. As for the rest can’t comment except based on what I’ve heard, and I have heard lots of people don’t like the sequels to Divergent (and even Divergent itself has pretty mixed reviews / a mixed reception)

Glad you loved it! And yeah that seems to be the popular opinion with the Divergent books so I’m glad I’m getting rid of them! π

Great list! I have no interest in finishing Winter by Marissa Meyer, finishing Hunger Games or Divergent π

Thank you! I didn’t like Cinder all that much but I was told that the series gets better, what did you think of Scarlet and Cress? Also the popular opinion with the Divergent series seems to be people didn’t like them so I’m glad to get rid of them! π

I only read the first three of the Lunar Chronicles. I didn’t like Scarlet but really liked Cress but I don’t think I’ll continue; I’ve seen minor spoilers for the last book and it’s very, very predictable so I’m not worrying about it π

I have had The Coldest Girl in Coldtown on my kindle for so so long. I am kind of in the same boat as you where my interest is kind of non-existent. I have read I Am Number Four and the two or three books after it but I have lost interest in continuing that series also! Awesome list!!

Exactly! Why waste time with books we aren’t completely excited for? And thank you! π

I’m getting quite discouraged about the divergent series as well… read the first book, i liked how it started, then towards the end it was kind of meh, so i left it there over a year ago…

I feel the same way I did finish the first book and it was just “meh”, everyone seems to be telling me the books only get worse so I think you and I lucked out with not continuing! π

I feel like Holly Black’s books are hit or miss for me. I wasn’t super into The Darkest Part of the Forest, White Cat or Tithe, but I really, really loved The Coldest Girl in Coldtown. Although I personally was very engaged from the beginning, I have heard other readers say that it took them a while for The Coldest Girl… to grow on them, but that their appreciation for the book improved dramatically by the end. If you ever decide to give it another go, hopefully you’ll have a similar experience as those folks!

Thank you I’ll keep that in mind with Coldest Girl, I may have to give it another chance! Yeah, I wasn’t the biggest fan of The Darkest Part of the Forest either but I’m hoping I’ll like The Cruel Prince since that one is suuuuper popular. π

I’m not a big dystopian fan – though I loved The Hunger Games trilogy – so I tended to avoid series that were similar. The only one I’ve read from your list is The Giver and I did enjoy that for the most part.

Glad to hear it! Yeah I don’t think I’m much of a dystopian fan either but I also enjoyed the Hunger Games! π

I’ve only read Insurgent myself out of your list and I’m not even going to try change your mind because I even pretend Allegiant doesn’t exist. I loved Divergent but I could most definitely stick to just that and the movie…

That seems to be what most people are telling me, haha, I’m thinking my choice to not continue is looking better and better! I still need to watch the second and third movies but I think I’ll do that rather than read the series! (also I don’t know why but I just laughed forever at “I even pretend Allegiant doesn’t exist”, love you!) π

Awww man the Giver is so good! The one that has the most dystopian vibes is the first one but the series really is beautiful! Magonia I still havenβt read and yea Divergent was good in its time but now itβs died down.
