Books I Just HAD To Have & Haven’t Read Yet: Part 2

Top Ten Tuesday(70)

As you can probably tell from the post title there is a Part 1 that you can check out! Believe it or not I actually buy a LOT of books that I don’t read right away but I had to have them so bad apparently. I’m terrible about getting into the hype and buying the books right away and then putting them off forever, book lover problems for sure!

(I was also just reading the first post and realized I’ve only read one off of that list, so I’m still being terrible!)

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

Yeah, I let the hype train get the best of me on this one and I haaad to order it right away! I still haven’t touched it, I want to but I have so many other books it’s hard for me to prioritize. I should really read it here soon, I bet I’d zip right through it and I want to see what all the fuss is about too.

Reign of the Fallen by Sarah Glenn Marsh

Another 2018 release that had a bit of hype around it, most books do to be honest, and I haaad to have it. I mean come on the cover is stunning and there’s bisexual necromancers!

The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton

Super hyped book! This seems like a really, really good book and honestly reminds me a bit of the “Uglies” book/series which I loved when I was a teen. I probably won’t get to it any time soon though, I buy them faster than I read them!

Godsgrave (Nevernight #2) by Jay Kristoff

I mean….it’s a special edition with art in the covers…..I did have to have it. I’m kind of thankful “Darkdawn” isn’t coming out until 2019 because it gives me time to read this one!

Pitch Dark by Courtney Alameda

I actually have had this on my TBR for a while, since I heard about it basically which was a while ago. I mean it sounds like the ‘Alien’ franchise which is awesome and one of my faves so of course I want to read a book that seems similar to it. Then it was released, I bought it, I told myself I have waited forever for it, and I haven’t read it.

Obsidio (The Illuminae Files #3) by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

A.K.A. I’m a terrible person. I really need to read this. Why haven’t I read this? I NEEDED IT!

Children of Blood & Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

Can you tell I get sucked into the hype a lot? This one just sounds amazing though to be fair! Maybe I’ll get to it next year…..

Forest of a Thousand Lanterns by Julie C. Dao

I bought this almost right when it came out and yep, still haven’t read it. The cover is gorgeous, it’s Asian inspired YA fantasy, and it’s based on The Evil Queen legend. So really I SHOULD read it here….

City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty

I was actually really excited for this book a while before it released and when it released it was super hyped which made me MORE excited to have it. So then I bought it and the poor thing has been sitting there unread for months. Ugh.

A Torch Against The Night (Ember Quartet #2) by Sabaa Tahir

I really loved “An Ember in the Ashes” so I needed to have the sequel right away, of course, and I still haven’t squeezed it in. I know I’ll love it and “A Reaper At the Gates” is coming out here so I really should read it!

Have you read any of these books? What did you think of them?

Do you have any of these on your TBR as well?

Did you buy any of these right away and haven’t read them yet either?

Do you buy books and let them sit for a long time?

What are some books you HAD to have and haven’t read yet?

Let me know in the comments!

City of Brass is probably my favorite book of 2018. It’s just soooo good and I’m dying for the sequel! If you don’t get to any of the others this year, I highly recommend at least picking this one up!

I LOVED The Cruel Prince, but I’d actually wait to read it till closer to when the sequel comes out. Finishing this one was torture for me — I wanted to go straight to the next and couldn’t.

Agreed! The hype is scary sometimes. There’s a lot on here that I haven’t gotten to yet as well 🙂

I get this post so so much, because there are a lot of books I have to have the second they’re released which end up sitting on my shelves for months before I’ll finally get around to them.
I hope you love Obsidio, it’s amazing, and the same goes for The City of Brass. That was actually in the running for my top read of 2017!
Again great post, and happy reading! 🙂 ❤️

Thanks Beth! It’s good to know I’m not the only one who buys books right away and then leaves them untouched, haha! I have a good feeling about City of Brass and Obsidio, I’m sure I will adore them and I’m glad they were two of your favorites! 🙂

I’ve not read Obsidio or all of Children of Blood and Bone either. They’re two of my top tbr books though so I hope to get to them soon.

I recommend Children of Blood and Bone and A Torch Against the Night! I still have yet to read The Belles and Reign of the Fallen but I really want to read them.

Glad to hear you enjoyed those two and I’ve heard lots of great things about The Belles and Reign of the Fallen, hopefully they will be just as great for both of us when we get the chance to read them! 🙂

A torch against the night was such a great book! And the third book was just published so you can binge read the two!

Right?! I feel like it was a good thing I didn’t read Torch right away because then I can go straight to Reaper, although I’m sure the wait for the 4th book will be killer! 🙂

Ooh, what a great topic! This describes like 99% of my book purchases. I did recently read The Cruel Prince and while I liked it, I think I over-hyped it in my mind. It’s definitely worth the read, though.

Thank you and it is definitely a bookworm problem, haha! Glad to hear you did enjoy The Cruel Prince nonetheless, I think I’m going to go into it with lower expectations because it’s crazy hyped and there’s just no way it’ll live up to that for me! 🙂

I am really feeling this post. I do the exact same thing so you are not alone! I currently have three huge boxes sitting in my bedroom of books that I have not read and not sure if I will ever get to them. I decided to weed them all out and donate them *sigh* But it did not stop me from hitting up Barnes and Noble last week to buy more! lol! *the life of a book obsessed book nerd*

Oh that is so familiar. I haven’t read The Cruel Prince or Children of Blood and Bone yet either. I did read Reign the Fallen, go me, and liked it. I have also read Pitch Dark, but didn’t like it as much as the author’s other book. But even so, not a bad book. 🙂

So glad to hear you liked Reign of the Fallen, I’m very excited to read it! I mean how can you go wrong with that cover and gay necromancers? Also sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy Pitch Dark as much I did like “Shutter” by her as well though! 🙂

Okay, first of all, I LOVE this post. I feel like I’m always asking to steal your posts but… can I steal this one, too? lmao!

Second, I can’t wait for you to read The Cruel Prince, Reign of the Fallen, Pitch Dark, and Obsidio! I loved all of those. I liked Children of Blood and Bone, too, but I don’t think I loved it quite as much as most people seem to have. I also really want to check out Godsgrave and City of Brass soon!

There’s so many books I need to read that I know I’ll love, ahhhhh!

Also if you ever want to do a buddy read of Godsgrave or City of Brass I am in, those are two books that are almost guaranteed to be amazing 5 star reads! 🙂

Bahaha I love you. Someone is eventually going to comment on my blog and be like, “Do you know your blog looks like a ripoff of The Sassy Book Geek?” and I’ll just be like YUP

Ooooh, yes!! Dude, let’s do it! Would you want to buddy read Godsgrave in August or September maybe? 😀 That one is soooo high on my priority list.

I’ll definitely let you know! I have to check my TBRs for ARCs in August in September and make sure I’m not cramming too much because I want to actually enjoy Godsgrave! I’ll DM you though and see what we can figure out later! 🙂

I totally forgot I asked you about buddy reading this, lol! I actually ended up deciding to do #ARCAugust so I don’t think I will read anything that isn’t an ARC in August, except continuing catching up on the Throne of Glass and Shadowhunters books. I would totally be down for September or even October, though!
