For some reason I always feel like buying more books in the summer, summer book fever! So I decided it might be a little fun to do a list of the books I would buy right now if I had some extra spending cash…..and room to put them!
The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang
This book blew up in the book blogging community and I have to say I’m 100% here because of the hype. There’s just so much awesome going on here: shamanic powers, a military school, a dark/fantasy setting, and it’s Asian inspired fantasy too! I NEED this book! (and then I’d probably not read it right away, but still!)
Red Sister by Mark Lawrence
I actually have “Prince of Thorns” on my TBR as well but just need to hustle up and read it. However, Melanie and Lilly’s convinced me that I NEED this on my TBR as well and it sounds super badass. Go check out their amazing reviews if you want some convincing!
Also I don’t want the mass market paperback, I’d prefer a bigger sized paperback if not a hard cover. I can’t seem to find one anywhere, if you know where I can find one let me know please!
The Armored Saint by Myke Cole
This is a Tor novella, which is almost a guarantee of its awesomeness, that actually reminds me a lot of Dragon Age. I have Melanie to thank again for this recommendation via her amazing review!
The Brightsiders by Jen Wilde
I loved Wilde’s other novel “Queens of Geek” so I’m looking forward to reading “The Brightsiders” as well. I loved how much representation there was in QoG and I’m sure we will see just as much in this one.
Iron Gold (Red Rising #4) by Pierce Brown
Because the original trilogy ruined me and I’m ready to be ruined again. I haven’t bought this yet because 1.) it’s expensive and 2.) if I bought it everything else would be put on hold!
To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo
Sirens, it’s a book about a siren trying to steal a prince’s heart: literally. Also I blame Destiny for my need of this book!
The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw
Witches stealing the bodies of weak hearted girls in order to lure boys to the harbor and drown them. There’s a gorgeous cover and ONCE AGAIN Melanie totally convinced me I needed to have it, I know I promise this is the last book I’m tagging you for on here Melanie, haha!
The Death of Mrs. Westaway by Ruth Ware
I hear quite a few good things about Ruth Ware’s books and her latest is no exception. I’m excited to give this creepy, sort of gothic, mystery/thriller!
Have you read any of these books? What did you think?
Are you also looking forward to any of these books?
What are some books you’d love to buy right now?
Let me know in the comments!

Look, Heather… the story of my blogging life right now is that you keep coming up with amazing list ideas and I keep wanting to steal ALL OF THEM. I’m trying not to basically turn Howling Libraries into The Sassy Book Geek v.2.0, but you’re not making it easy on me here…
LMAO. Seriously, though, I freaking love this. I might do something similar towards the end of my book ban, at the end of summer! Maybe I’ll make a list of the wishlist items that “survived” the book ban. (Part of why WLs work so well for me during bans is that sometimes, by the time the ban ends, I’ve changed my mind about some of the books.)
I bought The Poppy War riiiight before my ban ended (it was literally my last pre-ban order) and it looks so good. I can’t wait to read it. I also own and still need to read Red Sister, The Armored Saint, and The Wicked Deep, so if you buy any of those and want to buddy read them, hit me up! Oh, and The Death of Mrs. Westaway is literally THE #1 item on my WL right now, so I’m either ordering it ASAP when my ban ends, or I MIGHT make an exception for it before then. I always allow myself, during bans, to buy books if I promise myself I’ll read them within a week of receiving them, because that’s a really hard thing for me to commit to, so if I can promise myself that, I know I’ll very rarely actually USE the exception? But this book might be the time I use that exception… it’s been calling to me for a couple of months now and I keep seeing it everywhere!
Also (I KNOW THIS COMMENT IS SO LONG, I’M SORRY), I’m so excited that I got TKAK on this list for you, hehehe. It’s soooo good!

This comment though!!! 😀 I love it!!!!
Yeah, I can definitely see how a WL can do that! Like you give yourself enough time for the hype to die down and decide if you really wanted it that badly. I should probably be a bit better about that myself, haha!
I’ve been on a bit of a ban lately with the exception of ARCs and Kindle sales, but like you said it’s so hard to justify buying them when I know I won’t read them right away! I’m trying to be good! That’s definitely a good rule you have there: if you read it within a week of buying it. I might have to start following that one, then it completely justifies the buying in my opinion! I put myself on a hold at the library for Death of Mrs. Westaway, God knows how long that will take though, probably better that way though since I have other books to tide me over!
Also never apologize for long comments, haha, I love talking with you as always! 🙂

Haha yes, exactly! It’s kind of like how when you’re shopping in a store, if you walk around with the item for a while, sometimes you decide not to get it? Or is that just me? lmao!
Exactly! Well, if your hold comes in, let me know and I’ll make an exception and go grab it from B&N and we can buddy read it if you want! ♥

Definitely not just you, I have done that so many times! Like I’m talking at least an hour of walking around holding stuff and slowly putting certain things back! I’ll for sure let you know since it’s a loan and has to be read pretty quickly and I always read quicker in a buddy read! Hopefully it’ll be soon but I think EVERYONE put a hold on it so I’m not sure, haha! 🙂

Ugh, I feel you! I was gonna just put it on hold, too, but the wait list is like 6 months right now!! I was like, nope, I’ll just buy it in that case lol.

To Kill a Kingdom was so good! I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it!
I’ve been hearing a lot of amazing things lately about the new Ruth Ware’s book, and I added to my TBR. I think it’s the perfect book for fall/Halloween, tho😊.

Glad you enjoyed that one! I seriously hear so many good things about it so I can’t wait!
I’ve also heard a ton of great things about Ware’s newest book too, I haven’t read any of her books but I feel like this one would be a good start since everyone has been loving it! It really would make for a great fall/Halloween read since it has that creepy/Gothic vibe! 🙂

I think the same! I own one of her books but haven’t read anything by her either, but I’d love to read her newest release on Halloween😊.

Thank you! And yes, I’m sure Brightsiders will be just as good as Queens of Geek, or at least I hope it is but Jen Wilde amazing so I’m pretty sure haha! Red Rising is amazing so glad you loved it too! I will give you this piece of advice that everyone else gave me when I read the rest of the trilogy: once you finish Golden Son you better have Morning Star on hand because that ending will ruin you, haha! 🙂

Oh no that piece of advice both excites and gives me great anxiety! haha

Book buying really is a struggle, even if I have the money to spend it internally kills me to see the amount rack up with a bunch of newer releases! 🙂
