Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.
It has now been moved over to That Artsy Reader Girl.
Happy 4th of July everyone! It’s a bit unfortunate it falls in the middle of the week this year, no long lake weekend for me, but a day off is still nice. This week’s theme is pretty easy: colored book covers (I chose to stick with the 4th of July theme) but I’ll still discuss my picks a little bit too!
10.) The Bird and the Blade by Megan Bannen
This isn’t an ALL red cover but I think it still counts! I absolutely loved this book as heart breaking as it was, definitely one of my favorite reads of the year. It’s a historical fiction mixed with fantasy set in the Mongol empire it’s also a retelling of the opera Turandot.
9.) Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge
I have yet to read this one but the cover is gorgeous, as are all of Hodge’s books it seems! It’s a Beauty and the Beast retelling with some Greek mythology mixed in I believe, I’ve heard mixed things about it though. I’m still going to give it a try but I’m a little leery since I didn’t like her other book “Crimson Bound”.
8.) The Hundredth Queen by Emily R. King
This was a surprise for me, the story ended up capturing me just as much as this gorgeous cover! It’s about a girl who is selected to be the Rajah’s 100th wife and must not only hide her forbidden magic but fight for her place among the Rajah’s 99 wives in gladiatorial style combat.
7.) The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid
I could probably sing my praises of this book every day, that’s how good it was. Space court politics, plot twists like you wouldn’t believe, and one badass heroine!
6.) The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
I don’t think I can say anymore than I, or everyone else on the planet, already has about this wonderful book. It’s an amazing story and 100% worth the read.
5.) The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
Why haven’t I read this book yet? I own a copy. I really need to get on it, this one is so hyped and I want to know what it’s all about!
4.) Gemina (The Illuminae Files #2) by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
One of my all time favorite blue covers, I still need to read “Obsidio” because I’m a terrible person. The first book still holds a special place in my heart though!
3.) Caraval by Stephanie Garber
Another hyped book I still haven’t read, buying books and not reading them right away is kind of my thing apparently. I have heard some mixed things about this one but I want to give it a try myself!
2.) Pitch Dark by Courtney Alameda
It’s a YA horror in space with monsters, if you guys didn’t already know I love the Alien franchise so anything that even remotely sounds similar will have me grabbing for a copy.
1.) Strange The Dreamer by Laini Taylor
Another book I’m ashamed of myself for not having read yet because I love Laini Taylor. Also this blue UK cover is a lot prettier than the US cover in my opinion.
Have you read any of these books? What did you think?
Are any of them on your TBR?
What are some of your favorite red, white, or blue book covers?

I’ve read a couple of these. I loved THUG and agree everyone needs to read it. I have read Caraval and it took a while to get into but I did enjoy it. I have read Cruel Beauty and I sadly didn’t enjoy it. I plan on reading Gemina this month. And I love the idea of Pitch Dark so I added it to my TBR.
I hope you have a wonderful week!

I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews with Caraval and I’m glad to hear you eventually got into it since that’s usually how I am with those types of books! And I wasn’t the biggest fan of Hodge’s “Crimson Bound” but wanted to try her books one more time with “Cruel Beauty”, unfortunately I don’t think I’ll have much better luck with it.
Thank you! π

Fab choices Heather! I have only read The Hate U Give and Caraval from your list and loved them both. I really want to read The Hundrenth Queen, I keep forgetting about it because the TBR is massive as you’ll understand but every time I see it on your blog i’m like ‘OH YES!’
It looks so interesting and the cover always draws me in.

Thank you Hannah! I hope you enjoy Hundredth Queen when you get the chance, I was surprised by how good it was and yes I can definitely understand the whole massive TBR problem! I forget books on there ALL THE TIME! π
