Top Ten Tuesday: Best Books of 2018 So Far

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.

It has now been moved over to That Artsy Reader Girl.

This was actually a bit hard since I’ve had the pleasure of reading multiple fantastic books this year so far! However, I managed to pick out my absolute favorites and if I have a full review I will leave a link for it (click the title).

These are in no particular order.

10.) Contagion

Easily one of my faves of the year this YA sci-fi horror kept me on the edge of my seat and I devoured it! It’s super intense and definitely scared me at times, I cannot recommend it enough especially for my fellow horror lovers!

9.) Mistborn (The Final Empire) by Brandon Sanderson

This was a buddy read with the wonderful Ariana @ The Quirky Book Nerd, I can’t even process my feelings on this book right now but it was just as good as I knew it would be. The magic system is amazing, the world building is intriguing, and the characters are all my precious little cinnamon rolls!

8.) The Bird and the Blade by Megan Bannen

Definitely the biggest surprise to me on this list, I was not expecting to love it as much as I did. This is a historical fiction/fantasy/retelling all rolled into one: it’s set in the 13th century Mongol Empire and has bits of magic weaved within while also retelling the story of the opera “Turandot”. You don’t have to know the opera to follow the story however, which was really nice. Also be warned that the story is very heart breaking, something I was not expecting either!

7.) Golden Son (Red Rising #2) by Pierce Brown

This was one of the most emotionally distressing books I’ve ever read…..I loved it. Definitely my favorite in the trilogy too, everyone told me to have the 3rd book on hand and boy were they right! Overall I have so much love for this trilogy and I need to read “Iron Gold” but I’m not sure that I’m ready!

6.) Circe by Madeline Miller

I think if I had to pick a #1 favorite book for the entire year so far it would be “Circe”! I’m serious when I say everything about it is perfection, the writing is gorgeous and I loved all of the Greek mythology.

5.) Beneath The Sugar Sky (Wayward Children #3) by Seanan McGuire

I don’t even know how to review these books anymore, they’re just too perfect! I actually think that this one was my favorite so far since we got to see so many different worlds and the cast of characters were so diverse!

4.) Little Monsters by Kara Thomas

I love Kara Thomas, I really do. I’ll read anything she writes. This is a YA psychological thriller that will keep your attention and keep you guessing all the way up until the end!

3.) Royals by Rachel Hawkins

I’m usually not one for fluffy contemporary romances, at all. But this was just so much fun I adored it! I’m also a sucker for modern royalty stories and cannot wait for the sequel now.

2.) A Thousand Beginnings & Endings by Various Authors

This is a fantastic anthology by #OwnVoices authors and is inspired by East and South Asian myths and folklore. There were a few stories I didn’t enjoy, which was expected, but there were so many that I did and make the anthology very much worth the read.

1.) Bruja Born (Brooklyn Brujas #2) by Zoraida Cordova

I actually loved this one more than “Labyrinth Lost”, which I also loved. This one was just so addictive, I couldn’t stop turning pages! It’s about Latinx witches, there’s so much family love, and not to mention other supernatural beings. It has everything and is so, so good!
