Top Ten Tuesday: Books Worth The Hype

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.

I really love this topic since I’m always really excited to talk about books that were hype worthy, especially since I’m a bit of a picky reader when it comes to hyped books. Prepare for a lot of gushing! I will provide review links in the titles if applicable.

10.) The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

I remember when this was first released and there was quite a bit of buzz around it so I bought a copy. Then the hype just exploded and honestly this book is one of the most worthy books of hype, ever. I could sit and gush about it but it’s nothing I haven’t said before, read this book!

9.) And I Darken by Kiersten White

I remember when this was first coming out as well and the hype was real! I absolutely loved this book, I mean how can you go wrong with a genderbent Vlad the Impaler?

8.) Red Rising by Pierce Brown

I started this series after book 3 was already out but the hype around the entire series is huge and for good reason. This is easily one of my all time favorite books/series now and I know I’ll be recommending it to EVERYONE forever! I loved everything about it!

7.) Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

Have I seen a bad review of this book? I honestly can’t remember! Madeline Miller is easily one of the best authors out there, her writing is phenomenal and she does such a beautiful job of retelling Greek mythology. “Song of Achilles” is heart-breakingly beautiful and I loved it! (Also love “Circe”!)

6.) Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson

I think every blogger I know has recommended this to me and for good reason too, it’s amazing. Some of the greatest world building I’ve ever seen on top of a fantastic, well developed magic system. Nothing but good things can be said about this book!

5.) Saga by Brian K. Vaughan

Probably the most recommended and one of the most popular graphic novels out there, I was not super impressed with the first two in the series. However, after reading the third installment I was absolutely hooked and now I can’t get enough of it! It’s got gorgeous art and is a wonderful mash of fantasy and sci-fi!

4.) An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson

I feel like this was a really “quietly” hyped book, like I didn’t hear about it that much and suddenly BOOM everyone is in love with it. It’s beautifully written and has gorgeous cover art, I definitely understand the hype! Although I’m a little sad I didn’t buy my own copy because it really is gorgeous!

3.) Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire

I don’t think I know a single person who doesn’t love this novella. It’s for those of us who waited for our Hogwarts letters or searched our closets for Narnia, it’s one of the most relatable books I’ve read. It’s wonderfully written, the world building is magical, and the characters are diverse. Seriously, there’s nothing not to love here!

2.) An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

I have to say initially I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this one or not since usually I find hyped YA fantasies to be kind of cliched. However, once I started this one I was HOOKED! This is full of action and twists and was not what I was expecting at all, I really need to read the next two books….

1.) Illuminae by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

Another hyped book I was a little cautious of right away, there were tons of people loving it but at the same time there were those not loving it. The format was something super new to me so I was hoping it would work and for me and it did, not to mention the action packed plot! Now I’m obsessed with this series although, shame on me, I have yet to read the last one.
