TBR Lows & Highs #1

I’ve decided to stop doing my “Down The TBR Hole” posts since I’ve just reached a point where I’d like to keep most of them and I feel they aren’t as fun anymore. It just so happens my wonderful friend Destiny @ Howling Libraries came up with the GENIUS idea of doing a sort of combo post where we can discuss the books we have purged from our TBRs and the books we have added. Which is perfect in my opinion because I love discussing both!

I’m going to do 5 each for now but let me know if you guys would prefer to see more (10) next time!

If you would like to participate in this meme as well I will list the rules and please remember to credit and link back to Destiny’s blog so she can see your posts!

Rules:

• Link back to the original post at Howling Libraries
• Sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, ascending
• Find 5-10 (or more, if you feel ambitious!) titles to purge from your TBR (the “lows”)
• Post those 5 books in the list, with a brief explanation of why you removed it
• Next, sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, descending
• List the last 5 (or more!) books you added to your TBR, with a synopsis or your brief summary of why you added it (the “highs”)

1.) Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies by Lindsay Ribar

This just seems like an odd book and not one that I would enjoy so much anymore. I’m sure it’s for the right kind of reader but I don’t have time to waste on books I’m not interested in anymore.

2.) Eve & Adam by Michael Grant

I’m always tempted to keep this one since it’s by Michael Grant and it’s an interesting concept with Eve creating the perfect boy. However, I just don’t think I’d like it all that much.

3.) The Edge of Everything by Jeff Giles

So pretty much the only reason I even added this was because it has a supernatural bounty hunter, which is just cool. However, after reading several reviews I think this one has too many tropes for me to enjoy it.

4.) Gated by Amy Christine Parker

I do enjoy cult books but this one seems to not be too…explained or in depth. I just don’t think this is one I would enjoy a whole lot anymore.

5.) Seed by Lisa Heathfield

Another cult book that I just don’t really want to read anymore, zero interest.

1.) Gates of Stone by Angus MaCallan

This is a 2019 Fantasy release about an emperor’s daughter that’s denied the throne because she’s a woman and seeks out a way to regain the kingdom. And a prince whose kingdom is attacked by a sorcerer who also steals the royal sword, the prince must track the sorcerer across pirate infested waters (yay pirates!). And lastly the sorcerer who is seeking out the Seven Keys in order to release the evils of the Seven Hells.

I mean really it just sounds awesome and the cover is actually really gorgeous.

2.) What The Woods Keep by Katya de Becerra

For some reason this wasn’t on my TBR or it got removed somehow but I’ve been so excited for this book for so long! It’s about a girl who has strange, dark dreams of rituals in the Colorado woods and whose father has an obsession with a lost supernatural race but she inherits her childhood home and must return to the place. Sounds super spooky and dark and awesome!

3.) Sadie by Courtney Summers

I’ve heard so many amazing things about this book and it comes of as a mystery/thriller, with all the 5 star reviews I had to add it! (Click here for Destiny’s review, the one that made me add it!)

4.) Other Words for Smoke by Sarah Maria Griffin

I received an ARC of this and it sounds like a horror but more on the subtle side with some magic and fantasy for good measure. It’s just one of those books that has a very long synopsis and it’s so odd (in a good way) that it’s hard to explain what the book is even about!

5.) American Royals by Katharine McGee

Another 2019 release (sadly, no cover yet) that’s a re-imagining of America as a monarchy and tells the American Royal Family’s tale.
