Top Ten Tuesday(14).jpg

If you would like to participate in this meme as well I will list the rules and please remember to credit and link back to Destiny’s blog so she can see your posts!

Rules:

  • Link back to the original post at Howling Libraries
  • Sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, ascending
  • Find 5-10 (or more, if you feel ambitious!) titles to purge from your TBR (the “lows”)
  • Post those 5 books in the list, with a brief explanation of why you removed it
  • Next, sort your Goodreads TBR shelf by date added, descending
  • List the last 5 (or more!) books you added to your TBR, with a synopsis or your brief summary of why you added it (the “highs”)

Beasts Made of Night by Tochi Onyebuchi

This is one I’m pretty bummed about getting rid of because it sounds awesome with the Nigerian inspired fantasy and sin eaters, but I’ve seen a lot of “meh” reviews for it so I feel the execution isn’t the best.

Never Never by Brianna R. Shrum

I really do adore Peter Pan retellings but this one has meh reviews and I’ve got other ones I’d like to read more.

Rosemarked by Livia Blackburne

Some more meh reviews convinced me I really don’ want to waste my time reading this one.

Fablehaven by Brandon Mull

This is Middle Grade, which I’m kind of picky about these days and while the idea sounds cool I don’t think I could handle the characters right away. This one may get added back eventually.

Alex & Eliza by Melissa de la Cruz

I don’t know why I added this? I don’t enjoy historical fiction.

Wicked Like A Wildfire by Lana Popovic

I’ve heard this one is pretty slow and honestly I’m not all that interested anymore.

Brave New Girl by Rachel Vincent

I just have other Rachel Vincent books I need to be reading more than this one.

Freefall by Joshua David Bellin

I’ve sen lots of DNF reviews for this one and I’m just not going to bother with it anymore.

The Gallery of Unfinished Girls by Lauren Karcz

I really hate to get rid of this one since it’s a diverse read but I’ve heard it’s really slow and I just can’t stand slow pacing in books. I have a short attention span.

The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert

I was super excited about this one when it released but I heard it’s just not so good, not enough fairy tale creepiness for me!

The Siren and The Specter by Jonathan Janz

Just added this because of Destiny’s review, I need some horror books that will have me sleeping with the lights on!

Enchantee by Gita Trelease

A fantasy set during the French Revolution with magicians. That’s all I needed to know!

Binti by Nnedi Okorafor

This is a book I thought I already had on my TBR and realized I didn’t! I need all the diverse sci-fi Tor novellas!

Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman

I added this one when I bought it last month for $1.99 on my Kindle, it has so many glowing reviews I have to give it  a try!

American Street by Ibi Zoboi

Yet another book that I thought I had on my TBR but didn’t! How do I do this?

Girls on the Verge by Sharon Weller Biggs

This is a 2019 release and it’s a coming of age story about a young woman going on a road trip with two friends to get an abortion. It’s a long synopsis but it sounds really, really good.

Queen’s Shadow by E.K. Johnston

It’s a YA book about Padme you guys! This is awesome!

Dragon Pearl by Ha Yoon Lee

This is from Rick Riordan Presents, it’s Asian inspired, it’s a space opera, and the MC is descended from a long line of fox spirits. This book is everything!

The Royal Runaway by Lindsay Emory

I am such a sucker for modern royalty stories, definitely excited to give it a try!

Supernova (Amulet #8) by Kazu Kibuishi

I really need to catch up now that the new volumes are out! I can’t believe I didn’t have this on here already!

I’ve read Fablehaven… I’ve read the whole series, it starts off quite good, but then it kinda falls off by the fourth book, so I don’t know how much you want to invest in it. I’d definitely read the first couple though!

The Hazel Wood didn’t work out for me, either, it was such a … strange book? So I don’t think you missed out on much by skipping it. I really liked Starfish, though, I hope you end up loving it! ❤

Sorry you didn’t enjoy the Hazel Wood, I’ve just seen so many meh and negative reviews that I don’t want to bother with it anymore. My expectations were high for it, such a bummer! And thank you I have a feeling I will enjoy Starfish, everyone seems to love it ! 🙂

Some really interesting books on your list! I would give the Hazel Wood a try, I actually really enjoyed it, I found it twisted and creepy but it also had a sort of dream like quality that really suited the fairytale feeling

Thank you, I’ll reconsider the Hazel Wood and see about borrowing it from the library. I’m glad to hear you had a better reading experience with it since I feel a lot of people did not! 🙂

*clapping* I love seeing you do these!! It makes me so happy haha. You are not missing ANYTHINGGG by removing Rosemarked and The Hazel Wood. Rosemarked was just so boring and nothing happened, and THW, well, you probably already know how much I hate that book.

On a happier note, I am soooo glad you added The Siren and the Specter! I can’t wait for you to read it. I’m also super excited that you added Starfish (LOVE), American Street (didn’t LOVE, but liked a lot!), and Dragon Pearl (which I am sooo excited to read when it comes out!).

I actually looked at your Goodreads reviews again when I was debating removing them and was like “Yep, she didn’t like that one and DNF’d the other so they’re out of here!”. I was so sad to hear how disappointing THW was because I wanted a creepy fairy tale and your review pretty much told me everything I need to know. And I’m so stoked to read The Siren and The Specter now, I am 100% in the spooky read mood now and I NEED all the horror books! 🙂

Ugh yeah, I feel you on THW – I thought it was gonna be super creepy and mystical and fun, but instead I just got bad attitudes, casual racism, and boringness. (Is that a word? If not, it is now. lol)

If you needed anything else to persuade you to read The Siren and the Specter, the author is SUCH a nice guy and that makes it even better to me. I always love supporting authors who are friendly and kind, and he always replies when I tag him in things and is just so fantastic. I ordered another book of his from Barnes & Noble today because I don’t think I can wait until his next release, lol!

Thank you and so glad to hear you enjoyed it a ton too! I’ve been hearing a lot of good things now lately and I NEED it! I’m always looking for horror books that will actually scare me! 🙂
