Kindle Books I Forgot I Bought: Part 2

Top Ten Tuesday(20).jpg

I figured it was about time for a Part 2! If you would like to see Part 1 click here. I’m so guilty of buying Kindle books and forgetting them, it’s hard to keep track when I can’t see them all the time like physical books. These are only TBR books no ARCs or read books. These are also in no particular order.

Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder

This is $1.99 on Kindle all the time, it’s still $1.99 right now if you want to snag a copy!

This book comes very highly recommended, 4 and 5 star reviews as far as the eye can see. This is a YA fantasy about a girl named Yelena about to be executed for murder but is offered a position as a food taster in case anyone tries to poison the Commander of Ixia. Magical powers develop, rebels plan to take control, and Yelena must figure out how to survive. Sounds like plenty of action and suspense to me!

Shallow Graves by Kali Wallace

This is a paranormal/horror YA novel about a girl who awakens by her grave after being murdered, finds a man by her grave dead from her touch, and discovers she has the ability to now sense people’s murderous pasts. This sounds really interesting and I’m always up for some YA horror! I feel terrible I keep forgetting about it….

The Girl at Midnight by Melissa Grey

I heard this was similar to “Daughter of Smoke and Bone”, which I of course adored. I’m not expecting it to be as good but the concept of hidden ancient races of people with magic is so neat to me. So I want to give it a try but expectations are on the lower side.

Tiny Pretty Things by Sona Charaipotra & Dhonielle Clayton

A diverse cast of characters competing to be the prima at their elite ballet school. Normally this book probably wouldn’t be my cup of tea but for some reason I’m drawn to drama-filled contemporaries. Which seems ten times more interesting in a dance setting!

A Great and Terribly Beauty by Libba Bray

A YA gothic historical fiction, after Gemma’s mother passes she is shipped off from India to attend a boarding school in England. She has visions that tend to come true and a mysterious Indian who is sent to watch her….

Normally I’m not a huge fan of historical fiction but I hear wonderful things about Libba Bray!

The Witch Hunter by Virginia Boecker

Mixed reviews on this one but I just couldn’t resist at least trying it. It’s, obviously, about a witch hunter and when she’s accused of being a witch herself and sentenced to burn at the stake. She is saved by the most powerful wizard in the kingdom at the cost of helping him break a curse.

The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig

(This is currently on sale for Kindle for $1.99)

The main character lives on a ship that can go anywhere in time or any place real or imagined. That right there sounds amazing!

Titans by Victoria Scott

Mechanical horse races. Period. That’s all I needed to know to buy this one! That’s pretty much the gist of it as well, a girl is offered a chance to race one in a derby.

Starflight by Melissa Landers

This is honestly the only book I bought on here full price, which was a terrible spur of the moment decision clearly. I still haven’t read it and I could have bought it on sale for $0.99 if I just waited….the shame.

This sounds a bit Firefly-esque, it’s a YA sci-fi with some outlawish characters. There’s a lot going on in the synopsis, so much so that it’s hard for me to condense down but there’s some framing for conspiracy, characters who hate each other working together, and a mysterious planet holding secrets that could change the universe!

Front Lines by Michael Grant

This is a YA historical fiction about women and girls being allowed to fight during WWII alongside the men. Honestly, that’s all I needed to want this book! Plus I really enjoyed this author’s ‘Gone’ series.

The Alchemists of Loom by Elise Kova

I hear sooooo many good things about Elise Kova’s fantasies that I just decided to buy this one for $0.99 when it was on sale. That’s kind of it! This is about an engineer turned thief in order to make money and defy their oppressing Dragon King and a boy who wishes to help his sister usurp the throne. That’s a very, very slimmed down version but that’s what it’s about!

Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma

I wasn’t too sure about this book since the subject matter deals with incest but there are so many amazing reviews for it I decided to give it a shot.

Violet Grenade by Victoria Scott

Another Victoria Scott book on this list and I haven’t read either one! Also this cover is absolutely gorgeous! It’s sort of hard to tell what exactly this book is about it’s kind of a mystery/thriller but I have heard many amazing things about it. It’s about a young girl who has a voice inside her head and is offered a place in a home for girls, but the home and the girls have many secrets.

Hunted by Meagan Spooner

A Beauty and the Beast retelling that once again, I have heard amazing things about. Normally I don’t go for Beauty and the Beast retellings since I think they’re over done but this one seemed to have a unique take on things so I’m giving it a go!

Bird Box by Josh Malerman

A shorter horror novel about a family attempting to escape a mysterious being by taking a rowboat twenty miles down river in blindfolds, because one glimpse of the monster or man or animal drives you to extreme violence. I’ve been meaning to read this for forever and I think I’d like to try and squeeze it in for October, hopefully!

Never Never (Part 1) by Colleen Hoover & Tarryn Fisher

I’ve heard great things about this little book and great things about Colleen Hoover, I’d love to give her work a try. Also at the time I downloaded it this was free so what’s there to lose there? It seems to be about a couple that have been friends since they were little and in love since 14 but wake up complete strangers.

I still really want to do one of these posts some time once my reviews slow down a little, because every time I flip through my kindle library, there are soooo many books I have forgotten I’d bought. I haven’t read any of the ones on your list, but I own a few. I really want to read Bird Box before the year is out, especially since I think the movie is coming out right at Christmas time!

I be thinking Bird Box is a perfect October read. Though I am not sad that I read it sooner!

This is such a cool idea for a post and I also have this problem. I nab a lot of books on sale and then forget about them because they aren’t like in my face or at risk of suffocating me.

I am exactly the same with Kindle books! It’s terrible. A lot of these are on my TBR too, but I would definitely recommend Poison Study and Alchemists of Loom, they are brilliant reads. Great post!

The poison study series by Maria V Snyder is very similar to throne of glass. It was written before but still, it’s really similar with regards to the plot

Thanks, that makes me a little more cautious of it since I didn’t enjoy Throne of Glass all that much. I’ll probably lower my expectations with Poison Study a bit! 🙂
