I usually do my last month’s book haul way earlier in the month but trying to manage all things book blog this month has been a bit of a struggle, so I apologize! So here is September’s book haul, better late than never I suppose!
Shadow Run by AdriAnne Strickland & Michael Miller
This is a YA sci-fi that is promoted as being “Dune meets Firefly”, now I haven’t ever seen ‘Dune’ but I absolutely LOVE ‘Firefly’ so that’s pretty much all I needed to know. Space thieves, runaway princes, and special powers everyone is after. Yes please!
Apart in the Dark: Novellas by Ania Ahlborn
I’ve recently discovered Ahlborn’s books though I have yet to read any of them, I hear she’s a fantastic horror writer though and I’m always looking for new horror books! This was on Book Outlet so….I was basically obligated to buy it, that’s how that works, right? This book is made up of two novellas about a serial killer and haunted house respectively. At least that’s what I got out of the two different synopses!
Disappearance at Devil’s Rock by Paul Tremblay
I’ve heard great things about Tremblay’s books and this was on Book Outlet so once again I couldn’t help myself. This one is about a 14 year old boy who goes missing in the woods of a local park and who was last seen at Devil’s Rock, rumored to be cursed. This seems like it’ll be a mix of supernatural and thriller/psychological thriller, where you don’t know if what happened was paranormal or not which I love!
The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen
I really enjoy psychological thrillers especially when they’re narrated unreliably! This book really pushes to “assume nothing” in the synopsis and I love being thrown completely off when reading a thriller so this should be interesting!
Change Places With Me by Lois Metzger
This is a shorter book coming in at just over 200 pages, it’s about a girl named Rose who wakes up one morning and finds that her personality has changed and everything about who she was before doesn’t suit her any longer. And the person she was is still there inside of her somewhere…
I think the synopsis is very vague on purpose, hopefully it’s a great twist! It’s sort of sci-fi feeling and definitely sounds interesting.
Even The Darkest Stars by Heather Fawcett
I just love the sound of this book so much with a girl who dreams of becoming an explorer for the Emperor. The cover is gorgeous too!
I Stop Somewhere by T.E. Carter
I’m really excited for this book, however, it deals with some very heavy subject matter: sexual assault and abuse. I’ve seen stellar reviews for it and I feel it’ll be one of those hard to read books that are very worth it.
Sadie by Courtney Summers
Because everyone and their mother says this book is fantastic! Plus I love a good mystery….
Monstress, Vol. 3: Haven by Marjorie M. Liu
Volume 3 is finally in my hands! This series is all around fantastic, gorgeous art, great world building, and a fascinating plot.
We Sold Our Souls by Grady Hendrix
I’ve had my eye on a few Hendrix books now since I love horror especially quirky horror. I saw this in Barnes & Noble with its black sprayed pages and HAD to have it! It’s about a former metal band’s singer who may have sold his soul for fame and fortune.
Worlds Seen In Passing: 10 Years of Tor.com Short Fiction by Various Authors
This was a birthday present and I’m very excited for it since I love Tor! I’m sure there’s some fantastic short stories in here.
The Haunting of Ashburn House by Darcy Coates
Another author I’ve heard good things about and I looove horror especially about haunted houses. Plus it was on sale for Kindle for $0.99 so I pretty much had to buy it.
Before You Sleep by Adam Nevill
There were some good reviews for this, it’s made up of a few short horror stories and it’s FREE on Kindle. FREE! How can you go wrong?
The Toy Thief by D.W. Gillespie
I received this for review it’s another horror book from Flame Tree Press, they have so many awesome sounding horror books! It’s about a creature known as the “toy thief” and steals the MC’s brother away and she must go save him.
Empress of All Seasons by Emiko Jean
I’m so stoked to have received this one for review! It’s a diverse YA fantasy about a competition to find the next empress and the contestants must survive each of the palace’s seasonal rooms. It sounds so unique!
River Bodies Karen Katchur
I was sent this for review unsolicited. It’s a simple enough mystery/thriller about a murder case being reopened.
Enchantee by Gita Trelease
Super excited to have been approved for this on Netgalley! It’s set in Paris during the French Revolution and has magic and magicians!
What do you think of my haul?
Are you excited to read any of these books as well?

I have been seeing Sadie all over the internet, everyone seems to be reading and enjoying it lately. I’m contemplating picking it up myself, though I have heard that the audiobook is amazing – so I might decided to listen to it instead. 🙂
I really NEED to get my hands on Monstress! I haven’t even read the first volume, which is a shame as this graphic novel series seems like one I would completely adore. Great post Heather! 😀

I loved the audio book for Sadie! It’s the best audio book out there for me. Congrats on getting Enchantee! I’m dying to read that one 😀 hopefully you’ve been doing great!

Yes, I’ve heard so many good things about the audiobook specifically for Sadie. I’m not big on audiobooks but I may have to give that one a try even if I have a hard copy! I’ve been doing okay, still trying to battle the slump but I’m hoping to really get back into reading by putting books I know I’ll enjoy first! 🙂

Great haul, Heather!! I loved Sadie SO MUCH!! It’s what got me back into reading (and blogging). I definitely recommend the audiobook if you can get your hands on it because it really brings the story to life.

Thank you Lauren! And I know, I’m really regretting buying a hard copy instead of the audiobook now but I think I can get away with having both, haha. I may have to push Sadie up my TBR because I seriously need to get out of this reading slump I’m in and if it helped you out of a slump I have hope yet! 🙂

I received an ARC and even though I felt guilty that I didn’t read it on time I’m kind of glad I waited so I could experience the audiobook 😂 I hope you enjoy it no matter what the format you read it in and that it helps 💗

*chanting* DAR-CY COATES! DAR-CY COATES!
Sorry, I got excited, lol. I love Darcy Coates and I feel like I am always begging people to read her work and almost nobody ever does!! People see that she’s a self-published author and they tend to pass her by but her ghost stories are some of my absolute favorites and she’s a pro at that quiet, creeping dread sort of horror. I really think you’ll like her. I haven’t read that book in particular but I do own it so let me know if you ever want to buddy read it!

I BOUGHT IT BECAUSE OF YOU! YAY! I saw how much you loved her ghost stories and I LOVE a good ghost story so I mean for $0.99 I had to buy it and try it! I actually didn’t even know she was a self published author and that’s a shame people would pass it up because of that, I don’t care if it’s written in crayon on printer paper as long as it’s good! 🙂

Hahaha YAAAAAAAY!! This makes my little spooky heart so happy 😂💖 And yeah, same! It amazes me how many people refuse to touch self-published authors!
