December/Christmas Book Haul

Top Ten Tuesday(3).jpg

……..I really need to quit getting more books because I’m still in this terrible reading slump. I know, feels like I’ve been complaining for months (I kind of have). However, retail therapy actually works for me ESPECIALLY when books are involved so I don’t blame myself too terribly much. This isn’t a super big haul either but still counts!

Each title is linked to their Goodreads page in case you want more info or to add it to your TBR too!

The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang

This book is super hyped but it was sort of one of those under the radar books until everyone started reading it and discovering how awesome it was. Therefore I added it and finally snagged a copy and I’m SUPER excited to read it because dark, shocking fantasies are my thing. Also it was 50% off at Barnes & Noble so I grabbed it like it was the last copy (it wasn’t but I panicked)!

The Lying Woods by Ashley Elston

This is a YA mystery/thriller and kind of “sounds” like your typical one but I just know it will be a fun ride. I really enjoyed the twists in Elston’s “This Is Our Story” and I’ve seen some pretty glowing reviews for this!

NOS4A2 by Joe Hill

Joe Hill + Glowing Reviews + Horror Fiction = One Purchased Book by Heather. I’ve heard nothing but good things about this one and I’m not going to pass up the chance to read it! I purchased this with a Christmas gift card and my grandma asked what books I chose and I told her what they were about and she asks “Don’t you ever read anything nice?”. No, grandma. I don’t.

Iron Gold (Red Rising Saga #4) by Pierce Brown

I finally got it! I’m not quite sure I’m ready to be so hurt again but at the same time, bring it on!

City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab

This was essentially an auto-buy because it’s Victoria/V.E. Schwab but also Scotland and ghost hunting. I pretty much had no choice but to buy it!

The Folcroft Ghosts by Darcy Coates

I’ve heard nothing but good things about Darcy Coates from my fave horror reading buddy Destiny @ Howling Libraries so of course I need to give her books a try! They actually go on sale for SUPER cheap on Kindle quite often so I picked this one up for $0.99, for that price you can’t really go wrong!

Copy of Top Ten Tuesday(3)

Crown of Feathers by Nicki Pau Preto

I mean there’s Phoenix Riders so I’m here for it. That’s pretty much it. Well and there’s some other cool fantasy elements involving throne politics, sisters, and disguising oneself as a man to join an order. I think it’ll be awesome, can’t go wrong with phoenixes in my opinion!

Hello Girls by Brittany Cavallaro & Emily Henry

This is a YA Contemporary about two girls in abusive families who decide to get out of their lives together and start anew. It sounds like a really interesting story and it has to be if I’m reading contemporary because it usually isn’t my cup of tea.

Missing, Presumed Dead by Emma Berquist

I really enjoyed Berquist’s debut “Devils Unto Dust” and her latest book here sounds even better! This is about Lexi, who can sense how and when someone will die with a touch and when she foresees the violent death of a young woman she is too late to save her. However, she isn’t too late to help her ghost take revenge on her murderer. Sounds really good, right? Plus there’s some LGTBQ+ vibes too!

I’ve never heard of any of these but The Lying Woods sounds so great, right up my street! Thanks for introducing it to me. Hopefully I will get to it and not let it be lost to the TBR pile XD.

Yay for new books, Heather ❤️

I’ve heard amazing things about The Poppy War and everyone seems to really love it, its on my TBR but I have no idea when I’ll actually get to it. I’m also quite intrigued by City of Ghosts – I’m cautious with middle grade because I never know how it will turn out but this one sounds really good and everyone seems to love all of Schwab’s books.

I hope your reading slump passes soon and that you’ll be back to reading in no time ❤️
