February is always a fantastic month for new book releases and this year is no exception! There are definitely plenty of new books to choose from and I cannot wait!
These are listed by release date and honorable mentions (books I either have no interest in or haven’t read their predecessors yet) will be posted at the bottom! Each title is also linked to their Goodreads page if you’d like to add them!
On The Come Up by Angie Thomas
Release Date: February 5th
I mean it’s Angie Thomas’s new book so who isn’t excited for it? “On The Come Up” is about a young woman trying to make it big as a rapper not only for the love of it but to also help take care of her family.
Honestly so excited for this one, I know it will be un-put-downable!
Enchantee by Gita Trelease
Release Date: February 5th
Set in Paris during the time of the French Revolution and features magic and magicians! Our MC, Camille, uses her petty magic to make money in order to take care of her siblings but when her brother takes off with all of their money she sets her sights on the Palace of Versailles.
I love the unique premise and setting and it sounds like it’s full of politics and secrets, which I love.
The Ruin of Kings by Jenn Lyons
Release Date: February 5th
Kihrin discovers being a long-lost prince isn’t all it’s cracked up to be when he’s suddenly trapped within his new found family’s politics and also finds that there are a great deal of things the storybooks have also lied about: dragons, demons, gods, prophecies, true love, and how the hero always wins. But as it turns out Kihrin isn’t a hero destined to save the empire after all but rather to destroy it.
This synopsis is literally everything I want in fantasy, I love when tropes are turned on their heads like this!
Dark of the West by Joanna Hathaway
Release Date: February 5th
This books is a bit harder to sum up but it’s sort of YA fantasy meets World War II. A princess and a general’s son start falling for each other in the midst of war, conspiracies, and secrets though their families are rivals. Very Romeo and Juliette sounding!
The Antidote by Shelley Sackier
Release Date: February 5th
Forbidden magic and a young woman who possesses it and must choose between saving her best friend, who is also the crown prince, or letting him die. It might be your typical YA fantasy but I’m always game for forbidden magic!
Crown of Feathers by Nicki Pau Preto
Release Date: February 12th
Veronyka dreams of becoming one of the Phoenix Riders of old but after her sister betrays her she goes in search of them, disguising herself as a boy in the process. Right when she feels like she belongs her sister shows up again and reveals a web of lies that changes everything and all the while the empire has learned about the Riders and is set on destroying them.
Honestly very excited for anything with Phoenixes AND dark, fantasy politics and secrets!
The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley
Release Date: February 12th
I think one of the sentences at the beginning of the synopsis really says it all: a group of old college friends snowed in at a hunting lodge . . . and murder and mayhem ensue.
Sounds like a good old fashioned mystery and I have a feeling it’ll be really interesting.
The Black Coats by Colleen Oakes
Release Date: February 12th
A group who seeks vengeance on men who hurt girls and women. The main character joins the Black Coats but she’s not sure how far she’s willing to go to exact her own revenge when the group starts taking things too far.
This sounds really unique and I’m living for it!
Soul in Darkness by Wendy Higgins
Release Date: February 12th
I don’t usually read a lot of romances BUT it’s a retelling about Cupid and Psyche so I think I’d like it….
The Afterward by E.K. Johnston
Release Date: February 19th
Currently reading this and loving it, be on the look out for my blog tour review post! It’s about two young women finding their way back to each other after time apart and surviving an epic Quest to save the kingdom.
Tarot by Marissa Tennerson
Release Date: February 19th
It’s about a fantasy world inspired by Tarot cards. The main character is born of a queen and the tyrannical king’s archnemesis and is locked away in the Tower with her mentors and friends being the Hermit, the Fool, and the Magician.
I think this is another very unique idea and I’m curious to see how it’ll turn out.
Gates of Stone by Angus Macallan
Release Date: February 19th
This is about an emperor’s daughter that’s denied the throne because she’s a woman and seeks out a way to regain the kingdom. And a prince whose kingdom is attacked by a sorcerer who also steals the royal sword, the prince must track the sorcerer across pirate infested waters. And lastly the sorcerer who is seeking out the Seven Keys in order to release the evils of the Seven Hells.
Sounds like the makings of a great epic fantasy to me!
Last of Her Name by Jessica Khoury
Release Date: February 26th
I honestly feel the best way to describe this book is simple: Anastasia in space. This is an Anastasia retelling that’s also YA sci-fi, so there you have it! I think it’s going to be awesome, not to mention Khoury’s writing style is gorgeous.
The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
Release Date: February 26th
Again a few simple sentences at the beginning of the synopsis sum it up nicely: A world divided. A queendom without an heir. An ancient enemy awakens. (It’s hard to sum up epic fantasies)
Honestly one of my most anticipated releases of the year, I just know it’s going to be fantastic….there’s dragons.
Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte
Release Date: February 26th
A pickpocket and a noble messenger try to solve the brutal murders of all four queens of their nation. I just think the idea of a kingdom with four queens sounds awesome….even though they were all murdered….
We Set The Dark on Fire by Tehlor Kay Mejia
Release Date: February 26th
Set in a dystopian world there is a school for young women where they are trained to either run a husband’s household or raise children. Dani, the school’s top student, learns her papers were a lie that her parents sacrificed everything to get her into the school so she could rise above her station. Now she must hide the truth in order to remain, however, she’s approached by a resistance group to spy for them and they want equality for all.
This is feminist and full of LGTBQ+ Latinx characters, I have a really good feeling about it!
Warrior of the Wild by Tricia Levenseller
Release Date: February 26th
In a viking-esque fantasy world a girl fails her coming of age trial and her father banishes her from the village with a quest to regain her honor: kill the god to whom they pay tribute.
I’m down for anything with vikings and also the whole “kill a god” mission is always interesting!
Rayne & Delilah’s Midnite Matinee by Jeff Zentner
Release Date: February 26th
A contemporary novel about two best friends who must make tough decisions about their futures–and the TV show they host–in their senior year of high school.
Not my usual cup of tea but it sounds like a fun read.
The Weight of Our Sky by Hanna Alkaf
Release Date: February 5th
Lady Smoke (Ash Princess Trilogy #2) by Laura Sebastian
Release Date: February 5th
The Last Life of Prince Alastor (The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding #2) by Alexandra Bracken
Release Date: February 5th
Courting Darkness by Robin LaFevers
Release Date: February 5th
Bloodwitch (The Witchlands #3) by Susan Dennard
Release Date: February 12th
(Honestly a little tempted with this one because he was my favorite in “Truthwitch” but I just didn’t enjoy the first book enough)
The Blood Spell (Ravenspire #4) by C.J. Redwine
Release Date: February 12th
Honor Bound (The Honors #2) by Rachel Caine & Ann Aguirre
Release Date: February 19th

The Hunting Party sounds like so much fun, I love those kinds of murder mysteries! People in the middle of nowhere, bodies piling up, my idea of a good time, haha!

I have On The Come Up but I’m waiting until April to read it, and then I read the chapter sampler of Enchantée and was intrigued. If I decide to read Enchantée, I’ll most likely borrow it from the library. I also borrowed The Last Life of Prince Alastor from the library.
