Favorite Book Romances (2.0)!

Top Ten Tuesday.jpg

I hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day! This post was meant for V-Day but better late than never, I say. Today I’m going to talk about some of my favorite book romances, however, I have done a few other posts like this before so I’ll talk about some of my “newer” faves. If you would like to see some of my other favorite romances or just see some other Valentine’s Day-esque content, check out the links below!

I will be discussing the romances and romantic couples in each of these books and some couples are a bit of a surprise so I’ll list each book I’m discussing below for potential spoilers. I will also be linking my full reviews to each title if it’s available.

**** Please note that there are potential romance related  spoilers for the following books: An Enchantment of Ravens, The Tiger’s Daughter, Song of Achilles, Circe, Royals, Mistborn, Sea Witch, and The Afterward ****

An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson

This was a romance that took me by surprise, not that I didn’t see it coming but that I thought it was adorable. Usually I don’t enjoy romances that feature insta-love but honestly the chemistry between Isobel and Rook was fantastic and I couldn’t help but fall in love with them. Plus I’m a straight up sucker for forbidden romance…..

Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

This book is ALL about the romance and I lived and breathed for it! Achilles and Patroclus were perfect (well not really but I loved them, okay?), adorable, and would do anything for each other. Their story was both heart-warming and heart-breaking, I’ll never be the same! (But also would re-read it in a heartbeat)

The Tiger’s Daughter by K. Arsenault Rivera

Shefali and O-Shizuka start out….well being kind of enemies as children but as they grow they form a friendship that turns into romance eventually. (It’s an F/F romance and East Asian Fantasy) I loved how slow burn the romance was and how passionate they both were.

Circe by Madeline Miller

Madeline Miller just writes perfect books, normally I’d say “eh, nothing is really perfect” but her books quite literally are. So it’s no surprise I fell in love with the romance(s) in this one! “Circe” actually spans over thousands of years of Circe’s life so there are a few different love affairs but the one I want to specifically mention here is the romance between Circe and Daedalus. SO ENDEARING AND CUTE! I can’t say much more without getting into more major spoilers but just know they were my favorite!

Royals by Rachel Hawkins

This entire book was warm, fuzzy, hilarious, and fun! The romance was no exception but I was happy to see it wasn’t full of a bunch of tropes either and that it was actually a nice slow burn. Though I do have to say there was another character I wouldn’t have minded there being a love triangle with!

Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson

“Mistborn” definitely doesn’t focus on romance and I was a little surprised there was an semblance of it in this book, but I have to say I was shipping Vin and Eldon! I really looked forward to the party scenes where they would interact, they were just so adorable. I also really loved how Vin came out of her shell when she was around him as well.

Sea Witch by Sarah Henning

There’s actually quite the tangled web of romance in this book but not in a very convoluted way. Since I did set the spoiler tag at the beginning of the post I’ll just come out and discuss it! Evie thinks she’s in love with Iker, but honestly he’s just a playboy and I strongly disliked him. In fact she is in love with her childhood best friend who is also the crown prince, Nik. Nik is so cute and is a hopeless romantic so I was ALL for their romance and was rooting for them the entire time.

The Afterward by E.K. Johnston

This book features an F/F romance between POC characters and it’s all set in a high fantasy world where they deal with the “afterward” of the epic quest they went on to save the kingdom. I loved the chemistry between Olsa and Kalanthe, I really felt they were meant to be together even with the obstacles between them. Of course it was also slow burn and I’m always for a good slow burn romance.

ooh, the f/f romance in The Afterward sounds good! I like the idea of a book set AFTER the big quest, how novel!

I haven’t read any of these books, but honestly, I believe nothing beats the likes of Percy & Annabeth. It’s almost impossible to convince me that there exists someone better out there in any form of media.

I loved Song of Achilles and Circe. They were both beautifully written, and I can see myself re-reading them.
