It’s been a long while since I participated in a Top Ten Tuesday post but I’ve been slowly getting out of this awful slump and would like to churn out more content than I have been! Plus this is a fun topic! Also before we begin just a little side note here: I believe all of the books on this list were wrapped up nicely and do by no means REQUIRE a sequel, but it’d be nice if they had one.
These books are listed in no particular order and if I have a full review available I will link it.

10.) Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde
I don’t think the story itself really calls for a sequel but the characters most definitely do! This book was such a wonderful surprise for me; it was diverse, adorable, and full of all the geek things. I would LOVE to read about all of these characters and couples in another setting! (Though I’ll settle for just reading more Jen Wilde!)
9.) An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson
Um, more Isobel and Rook please? One of my favorite fantasy couples definitely deserves a sequel! I loved how fleshed out and interesting the world was for a standalone but it makes me a little sad I don’t get a second book to expand on the lore and magic even more!
8.) Empress of All Seasons by Emiko Jean
Awkward confession time: I actually thought this was a series until I got to the end of the book. It felt like the first book in a series but the end really abruptly settled everything. And since I felt the ending was super rushed I would LOVE a sequel that goes into even more detail about the world and characters.
7.) Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand
There actually really isn’t a way to make this book have a direct sequel (at least in my mind) but I think a spin-off or companion novel would really work! The magical realism and horror mash up was amazing especially with the diverse cast and feminism so I basically need more.
6.) Lost Boy: The True Story of Captain Hook by Christina Henry
This book actually tells the tale of how Captain Hook became Captain Hook. So an origin story is a little hard to do a sequel for, I understand, BUT we could get a book about his life Post-First Book-Events! The Neverland Christina Henry created was terrifyingly dark and awesome so I’d love to read more that’s for sure!
5.) Heartless by Marissa Meyer
Another origin story except this time about the Queen of Hearts and again it ended SO WELL but I’m greedy and want more. And before you all recommend me the Lunar Chronicles….those aren’t really my cup of tea but Meyer does know how to write an interesting retelling. I just think more Alice in Wonderland retellings from her would be great!
4.) The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury
An ‘Aladdin’ retelling that was pretty much perfect in every single way, so perfect in fact that I feel robbed by not getting more! The writing, world, characters, and romance were all perfection! Maybe a spin off or companion novel? Pleeease?
3.) Shutter by Courtney Alameda
So I’m like 99.9% sure this book was supposed to have a sequel, judging from the ending and the Goodreads page, however, it just never happened and at this point I don’t think it will. But I wouldn’t be mad if it ever did! I really want to know what’s going to happen next, that slight cliffhanger kind of bothers me because everything is left so open ended now!
2.) Slasher Girls & Monster Boys by Various Authors
I feel like this pick is almost cheating since it’s an anthology but I mean it still counts, right? This YA horror anthology was so awesome that I really wish they’d do another one with the same authors and more horror stories!
1.) The Afterword by E.K. Johnston
Another book that was super well rounded and tied up neatly at the end, but the world and characters were just so great that I can’t help being greedy and wanting more. There’s just something about the way Johnston writes that pulls me in and the world she created really proved that. I would love another classic fantasy tale filled with adventure and heroism set in this world!

I thought the same thing about Empress of All Seasons that it was the first book in a series. I would love a sequel.

Can’t say that I’ve read any of these, but I definitely understand the feeling of wanting more after a reading a standalone!

Of these, I’ve only read Heartless, but I would really like to see a sequel for that one! The way Meyer retold Wonderland was amazing! ❤
