Sequels I Really Need To Read

Top Ten Tuesday (57).jpg

I don’t know why I do this to myself, I mean I LOVED the first book so why do I wait so long to read the sequel? Might have something to do with the fact that I find sequels harder to review for some reason. Who knows! What I do know is these books need me to read them, stat!

I will include links to my full reviews of the first books if available and these aren’t in any particular order.

Godsgrave (The Nevernight Chronicles #1) by Jay Kristoff

I fell completely in love with “Nevernight” it’s exactly my type of book so I’m really ashamed of myself for not having read its sequel! To be fair though I might just wait until “Darkdawn” is released so I don’t have to wait!

Crooked Kingdom (The Dregs #2) by Leigh Bardugo

Every time I glance at this book on my shelves I feel guilty for not having read it yet, I liked “Six of Crows” and this is only a duology so I really don’t have any excuses.

A Torch Against the Night (An Ember in the Ashes #2) by Sabaa Tahir

I bought this book right after finishing “An Ember in the Ashes” because I was addicted and the cliffhanger was brutal! And yet….I still haven’t read it and “A Reaper at the Gates” is out and everything! I know once I start this I’ll be sucked right back in though.

A Gathering of Shadows (Shades of Magic #2) by V.E. Schwab

I started this series when the first book was just released and it’s been finished since the beginning of 2017 and I still haven’t read this one! I really don’t have any excuses for this since I own all of them….

Now I Rise (The Conqueror’s Saga #2) by Kiersten White

“And I Darken” is one of my all time favorite books because of how creative and unique it is, this trilogy is also finished now. I really need to dive back into this series, I need more dark, morally gray decisions and characters!

Kinslayer (The Lotus Wars #2) by Jay Kristoff

Yeeeeahh I have a thing for Jay Kristoff’s books……and by that I mean I love them and apparently don’t finish them. I loved “Stormdancer” mainly because I was so shocked and I love talking animal companions so I definitely need more!

Vengeful (Villains #2) by V.E. Schwab

I feel like I waited forever for this book even though it was a lot less than people who read “Vicious” when it was initially released. Even so I was DYING for the sequel and pre-ordered it and everything. And here it sits. Unread. Shame on me.

Days of Blood & Starlight (Daughter of Smoke & Bone #2) by Laini Taylor

After quite literally taking forever to read “Daughter of Smoke and Bone” I guess I’m not too surprised with myself for not reading the sequel yet. However, I absolutely adore Laini Taylor’s world building and writing  so I will get back into this series…..along with all of her other books.

I feel your pain! lol I, too, am guilty of taking forever to get around to reading sequels a lot of the time. A couple of mine I need to read are on your list, especially Crooked Kingdom. I loved Six of Crows so I have no idea why I still haven’t read it’s second part. Especially considering it’s been sitting on my bookshelf this whole time! 😛

oh my godness I thought I was the only one who hadn’t read Godsgrave or Crooked Kingdom yet!! Like you I absolutely love the first books so much! I always recommend them and mention them in favourites lists but for some reason have been putting off the sequels! I guess i just don’t want to be let down or the story to end.

I’ve been saying it so many times that I need to read AGOS, but I just never did! I am genuinely curious of how the story would go next, I just can’t find enough motivation to start reading!

Oh my gosh – the cliffhanger at the end of Godsgrave is horrific. Don’t read it until Darkdawn comes out!!!

I’m really bad at continuing with series, so I completely get your struggle! There are so many series where I have read and loved the first book, yet never continued on with them. Vicious is one of those examples. I read the book years ago and completely adored it, it’s one of my all time favourite books. I was dying to read Vengeful ever since it was announced, yet for some reason I haven’t. Hopefully we will get better at continuing/finishing series in the future! 😀
