I feel like every 5 star read I have has left me with a book hangover, that’s how I know it’s a really good book! Unfortunately, it then feels like no other book will ever be that good again.
These titles are not listed in any particular order and I will link each one to their Goodreads page.

10.) Alice (The Chronicles of Alice #1) by Christina Henry
(Full Review Here)
A dark, gritty, horror retelling of Alice in Wonderland that is perfection. I love retellings and I love horror and this book is a perfect blend of both, no other retellings even compare! I am now addicted to all of Henry’s dark retellings.
9.) Vicious (Villains #1) by V.E. Schwab
(Full Review Here)
V.E. Schwab is our queen! Honestly, though I think I will love everything this woman writes and they always leave me with a book hangover. None more so than “Vicious” though, this book has so many little cliffhangers and the writing is phenomenal. You can’t go wrong with morally gray super heroes!
8.) Illuminae (The Illuminae Files #1) by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
(Full Review Here)
Wow, this book. I did not expect it to be as amazing as it turned out to be, what a wild ride! While I didn’t love some of the characters or the romance, I pretty much loved everything else. Space battles, government conspiracies, viruses that make space zombies, and an evil AI. Yep, there is a lot of action and honestly I feel like I needed to take a three day nap just to recover.
7.) Red Rising (Red Rising Saga #1) by Pierce Brown
(Full Review Here)
This entire trilogy (though I know there’s more now, I have only read books 1-3 so far) gave me a book hangover. I’m not sure I’ve ever been so completely addicted to a series like this, I stayed up way too late reading these. They destroyed me but I loved every second of it.
6.) Circe by Madeline Miller
(Full Review Here)
Have you ever read something that was so beautifully written that you feel like no book will ever be enjoyable again? Well if you haven’t, “Circe” will definitely leave you with this kind of book hangover. It’s beautiful and all around perfection.
5.) Stormdancer (The Lotus Wars #1) by Jay Kristoff
(Full Review Here)
This book was what convinced me that I needed to read everything Jay Kristoff writes. It’s addictive, action packed, and the world building is amazing. Also I just really loved how many shocking twists there were along with Buruu the thunder tiger that speaks via telepathic link with the protagonist. He’s hilarious, I love him.
4.) Nevernight (The Nevernight Chronicle #1) by Jay Kristoff
(Full Review Here)
I already mentioned I want to basically read everything by this author so this should be no surprise. He seriously has never disappointed me. Everything about this book was phenomenal and the twists are seriously so shocking that I feel betrayed but also love it. Shocking twists at the end of books always leave me with a serious book hangover.
3.) The Diabolic (The Diabolic #1) by S.J. Kincaid
(Full Review Here)
Speaking of twists that absolutely blew me away…. This book shocked me. I couldn’t believe all the twists it had and I didn’t even see them coming! However, the cliffhangers the author keeps leaving at the end of the books in this series, it’s mean. This book hangover has gone on for too long! Anyways this is an action packed YA sci-fi that I cannot recommend enough, seriously.
2.) An Ember in the Ashes (An Ember in the Ashes #1) by Sabaa Tahir
(Full Review Here)
This book was like a YA fantasy version of “Red Rising”, where my emotions were thrown into complete turmoil and I was shocked with each twist. Again, that ending cliffhanger gave me a very bad book hangover.
1.) Contagion (Contagion #1) by Erin Bowman
(Full Review Here)
This is a YA horror sci-fi and not only is it wonderful nightmare fuel but it also kept me on the absolute edge of my seat. This is full of action and it’s thrilling to read, so much adrenaline!

There’s a few on this list that I’ve wondered about. I think I will give them more attention.

I absolutely loved Circe. It was the most wonderful retelling of Greek Mythology, and it’s stayed with me for the whole year or so since I’ve read it. Rather than book hangovers, it’s whether a story sticks with me, and I think about it for a long time afterwards that tends to be my mark of a great book!
