Top Ten Tuesday: Books Written Before I Was Born

That awkward moment where this is harder than you originally had thought. There are plenty of books that were published before I was born in 1994 but I wanted to stick with books on my TBR or books that I have personally read. Which made it a tish bit harder because a lot of “older” books don’t really interest me so I don’t have a ton of them. I also don’t have too much to say about each one because if I did read them it was when I was a kid/teen so there isn’t much that I remember specifically about them.

These titles are not listed in any particular order and I will link each one to their Goodreads page.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.

It has now been moved over to That Artsy Reader Girl.

10.) The Last Wish (Witcher #0.5) by Andrzej Sapkowski
First Published: January 31st, 1993

This is on my TBR still and I want to read the whole series because I really enjoyed the video game series and no I haven’t watched the Netflix show yet. I always thought the world and characters were super interesting so I hope this will be a good read!

9.) The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy (The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy #1) by Douglas Adams
First Published: October 12th, 1979

Yes, yes I want to read this because I personally enjoyed the movie and I think these books sound like a lot of fun.

8.) Dracula by Bram Stoker
First Published: May 26th, 1897

One of the few classics that I actually enjoyed and was not forced to read in high school, I read this on my own and absolutely loved it. Probably because it’s the original vampire book.

7.) The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (The Chronicles of Narnia #1) by C.S. Lewis
First Published: October 16th, 1950

I read this when I was in 4th grade, I believe, because my mom had her whole collection from when she was a kid. I loved this first book but for some reason didn’t continue on with the rest. Still it is a classic and well worth the read especially for children.

6.) The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
First Published: September 21st, 1937

Another classic and one of my all time favorites, just a fun adventure tale. Words cannot express what an excellent book this is honestly.

5.) The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower #1) by Stephen King
First Published: June 1st, 1982

I bought a bargain copy of this book and hopefully I can get into this series. I haven’t ready any of King’s fantasy books. I also just have a ton of his books on my TBR in general.

4.) The Shining (The Shining #1) by Stephen King
First Published: January 28th, 1977

I read this book back in high school and it’s iconic horror for a reason.

3.) And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
First Published: November 6th, 1939

I actually have more than a few of Agatha Christie’s books on my TBR and by some miracle I haven’t had any of them spoiled for me. So I’d like to keep that going until I finally pick them all up one day!

2.) Flowers in the Attic (Dollanganger #1) by V.C. Andrews
First Published: November 1979

Was it just me or did everyone read these books when they were a teen, regardless of what decade it was? This series is pretty fucked up, that’s honestly the only way to put it. This book is super dark, I can’t believe I read it and the thing is that I borrowed them all from my mom who had pretty much every V.C. Andrews book when she was a teen. Oof.

1.) Watchmen by Alan Moore
First Published: 1987

Classic graphic novel, but what’s new there? I liked it and I also liked the movie, haven’t watched the entirety of the new HBO show either.

Have you read any of these books? What did you think?
What are some books that are older than you, that you have either read or hope to read?

That moment where my brain goes, “Oh, The Witcher series started before I was born?” And then I read the date and, nope, it did not. xD And now I feel old haha. That’s a series I definitely want to read, too. I never played the game, though I’ve watched hubby play it. I did love the Netflix series, though!

The Hitchhiker’s Guide is a TON of fun. Exactly as entertaining and funny as the movie implies. I hope you enjoy it!

    Here’s my TTT post.

I loved The Hobbit and Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. I still have my Scholastic Book Fair boxed set of the Chronicles of Narnia series, which I love. The whole series is so magical.

Despite owning them, I also never read any of the Narnia books past the first one, although they are still on my TBR. I haven’t read any of the others here, although I recall doing something with Dracula in high school? I don’t really remember.
