So I did a post a few days ago that was my recommendations for the most terrifying books to read for Halloween so this time I’m recommending some non-horror books that I think are great to read for Halloween as well!
It’s not too late to pick one of these up for a quick read today!
10.) Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
While there are a few creepy parts in this book it most definitely is not a horror book. It’s a very unique book and has some interesting pictures within as well which is why I think it’d be a great read for Halloween for non-horror readers.
9.) Rot & Ruin by Jonathan Maberry
This is a very heartfelt book that just so happens to have zombies as well. You’ll get attached to these characters and also have the added “horror” fun of some zombie-killing too!
8.) Revenge of the Witch by Joseph Delaney
This is a book all about Tom Ward, the last apprentice, being taught how to hunt down all kinds of ghosts and monsters. Technically this is a middle grade book which makes it not too creepy and yet full of different supernatural beings!
7.) Stalking Jack The Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco
This one is just eerie and a bit gory enough for me to recommend it for Halloween but mostly it’s historical fiction and romance.
You can read my full review of “Stalking Jack The Ripper” here.
6.) The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
This is not only loaded with all things paranormal but it’s also very mysterious. Worth all of the hype and is a great read for anyone looking for a tamer Halloween book.
You can read my full review of “The Raven Boys” here.
5.) I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga
Serial killers are just as scary as any ghosts, right? This is a down-right addicting story with all the gruesome detail needed for a great Halloween read!
4.) A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
This is one of the most heart-harming and gut-wrenching books ever but the reason I recommend it for Halloween is not only because it’s a great, short book but because um…there’s a monster. Basically I’m just taking an opportunity to make everyone read this awesomeness!
You can read my full review of “A Monster Calls” here.
3.) Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Cordova
Looking for a good witch book? This is the one for you! It’s full of magic and adventure and will most definitely not leave you with nightmares this Halloween!
You can read my full review of “Labyrinth Lost” here.
2.) Coraline by Neil Gaiman
We all know how often the movie gets played for Halloween so why not read the book? It’s the perfect amount of creepy but most of all it’s just a fun, cute story.
You can read my full review of “Coraline” here.
1.) The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
Odd that my 2 most recommended stories are Neil Gaiman? Nah.
This is my most recommended non-horror book for Halloween! It is utter perfection, full of ghosts and all manner of supernatural creatures and it’s just a cute, heart-warming book. I love it to pieces!
Hope this helped some of you out and Happy Halloween everyone!
