Books I’d Like to Finish Before the End of the Year

So of course I’m going to be pretty busy this month and next month with ARCs but by the time November and December roll around what will I be reading? It’s been a bit of a chore with certain posts to not discuss my planned October TBR, why is it so secret? Just for fun! I have quite a few spooky books set up for October. However, there are a couple books I would for sure like to squeeze in before the year ends that aren’t going to be a part of my Halloween TBR for October. Here are just a few of them!

Untitled design(26)

Little Monsters by Kara Thomas

I just purchased this book and would LOVE to dive into it soon since it promises to be pretty dark and full of some serious plot twists. If it’s anything like Thomas’s other book “The Darkest Corners” then it’s sure to not disappoint!

The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson

I’m actually ashamed that I haven’t read any of his books yet since I’m an avid fantasy reader! Plus on top of that EVERYONE keeps telling me I must read this series and I know they’re right. I’m really hoping I can manage to make some room for it before the year is up.

Because You Love To Hate Me Edited by Ameriie

I’m sad I couldn’t fit this in any sooner but the ARCs got the best of me! This should be a fairly quick read since it’s an anthology by some fantastic authors and all about villains. Can’t wait to get to it!

Furthermore by Tahereh Mafi

I’m all for anything that seems “Alice in Wonderland” inspired and I also have been meaning to give Tahereh Mafi a try. I just got a copy of this book and hoping I can test it out soon, especially with that gorgeous cover!

The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan

I know, I know how can I NOT have read the Heroes of Olympus series yet? I read and adored and loved the Percy Jackson series but just haven’t gotten to this one yet. Fortunately I got a fantastic deal on a box set so now I have no excuse to not just dive into this series finally!

A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab

I have zero excuses on this one, especially now that the trilogy is complete! I’m hoping I can finally get started on the sequel to the fantastic “A Darker Shade of Magic” because Schwab is Queen!

The Queen of Blood by Sarah Beth Durst

This book is a little bit more under the radar but I thought it sounded interesting and I have heard good things about it. I’m all for interesting magic systems!

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

I’ve been meaning to read this ALL YEAR and still haven’t gotten to it yet! So I’m hoping I can finally read it especially since I adore Laini Taylor’s writing to bits and pieces.

Authors I Can’t Believe I Haven’t Read Yet!

Top Ten Tuesday(88)

Untitled design(25)

Of course there are always a ton of authors that I need to read but these are just a few with MULTIPLE books that I’d like to give a try! I also have no excuses for myself regarding these authors either, I even have some of these books! These are all in order of how you see the author’s picture represented (so it explains which is which below!).

Basically this is one big “shame on me” post!

Books I’d Like To Try: Furthermore & Shatter Me

I’m actually not 100% sure if I’d enjoy “Shatter Me” or not but it’s a pretty hyped book and everyone sings its praises so I figure I can give it a shot. I do have a copy of “Furthermore” on its way to me so I’ll be reading that first, hopefully it’s as amazing as everyone says it is! Then I can decide if I’d like to read “Shatter Me” or not.

Libba Bray

Books I’d Like To Try: A Great and Terrible Beauty, The Diviners, & Beauty Queens

There are honestly so many books by Libba Bray that I’d love to read! I have copies of all of these except “Beauty Queens” but I’d really like that one as well! I think I’m especially excited to give “The Diviners” a go since everyone seems to like it and it seems pretty creepy.

Brandon Sanderson

Books I’d Like To Try: The Final Empire, The Way of Kings, Steelheart, and The Rithmatist

This is probably the author I’m most ashamed of myself for not having read yet, honestly. I’m a HUGE fan of fantasy and yet I haven’t read anything by Brandon Sanderson yet? And also I have copies of his books and still haven’t read any? Shame on me! Of course I hear NOTHING but wonderful things about his books so I really do need to read one of them here sooner rather than later…..

Morgan Rhodes

Books I’d Like To Try: Falling Kingdoms & A Book of Spirits and Thieves

I have copies of both of these books and you’d THINK I’d have read one by now but nope. One of the most popular YA Fantasy series and I’m just sitting over reading everything else.

Julie Kagawa

Books I’d Like To Try: The Iron King, The Immortal Rules, & Talon

I actually REALLY want to read any of her books because people really seem to enjoy them and they have pretty unique concepts. Fairies, vampires (except done differently, not the run of the mill paranormal romances vampires), and dragons that turn into people. Count me in….eventually.

Rainbow Rowell

Books I’d Like To Try: Fangirl, Carry On, & Attachments

I’m always a little on the fence when it comes to Rainbow Rowell because I’m not sure if I’ll actually enjoy her writing. I’d have to say if I was going to try any of her books it’d be one of these three.

Samantha Shannon

Books I’d Like To Try: The Bone Season (Entire Trilogy)

Okay so Samantha Shannon is probably the only author on here who doesn’t have multiple books/series that I want to read but “The Bone Season” is a pretty big deal and I’d really love to give it a try! I’m all for anything with a unique magic system.

Elise Kova

Books I’d Like To Try: Air Awakens & The Alchemists of Loom

This is actually one of those YA fantasy series that’s popular but not super hyped, if that makes sense? Both are fairly cheap on Amazon Kindle and they definitely sound interesting enough to give a go.

Cinda Williams Chima

Books I’d Like To Try: The Demon King & The Warrior Heir

Big player in YA/Middle-Grade Fantasy and I see her books/series around a lot so of course I want to give her a try. I have copies of both of these books and I just need to get to one of them here soon!

Alexandra Bracken

Books I’d Like To Try: The Darkest Minds, Passenger, & The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding

I actually have a copy of “Passenger” and just haven’t read it because after all of the hype I’m terrified that it will be slow and boring. I think I’m most excited to try “The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding” now since it involves deals with demons.

Ruta Sepetys

Books I’d Like To Try: Salt to the Sea, Between Shades of Grey, & Out of the Easy

Tons of people rave about Sepetys’s books but I’m usually not a huge fan of historical fiction. However, I’m definitely ready to give her a try especially “Out of the Easy” since it’s in 1950’s New Orleans and that just really piques my interest.

Adam Silvera

Books I’d Like To Try: More Happy Than Not, History Is All You Left Me, & They Both Die At The End

As you all know I’m not much of a contemporary reader and especially not a romance reader, however, Adam Silvera’s books get a lot of praise and they’re diverse. That’s all I need for once, I’m willing to give one of his books a go!

Backlist Books I Need To Read

Top Ten Tuesday(80)

Hello fellow book lovers!

Have you noticed my love for making bookish lists yet? I do a ton of them…..Today’s list is all about those backlist books! We all talk so much about new or recent releases that I sometimes forget I can talk about books that were published ages ago as well. So today I’m just going to be listing a few backlist books I’ve been meaning to read and that I’m excited to get to! Of course these aren’t even close to all of them though!

I’ll link each title to their Goodreads pages in case you want more of a description or to add them to your TBR as well!

Alias Hook by Lisa Jensen

Alias Hook

I’m 100% all for any kind of Peter Pan retelling so of course I want to give this one a try. It’s about Captain Hook surviving the end of the original tale and meets a grown woman who comes to Neverland who discovers that Hook may not be the villain everyone makes him out to be. Like I said, I’m ALL for it!

Bird Box by Josh Malerman

Bird Box

This book just sounds interesting, creepy, and short. I’m not sure how to describe it but it’s about someTHING that with one glimpse will drive a person to extreme violence and no one knows exactly what it is. After surviving it five years ago Malorie wants to escape to somewhere safer with her two children but must travel down the river blindfolded as something follows them.

Sounds super creepy and very unique, I can’t wait to read this one!

Furthermore by Tahereh Mafi

Furthermore

This one isn’t quite a year old yet but I still consider it backlist by now, while I’m not super interested in Mafi’s other series “Shatter Me” I did think this one sounded really fun and interesting. It seems to be inspired by “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” with the magic and seemingly whimsical land of Furthermore that the main character must travel through.

Plus the cover is so colorful and pretty!

Keturah and Lord Death by Martine Leavitt

Keturah and Lord Death

I really, really need to get my hands on a copy of this book, it seems like such a hidden gem! It’s about Keturah who gets lost in the forest and as death nears she comes to find that he is a handsome, young lord who she charms with her storytelling which gains her 24 hours to find her true love or perish. This story seems very unique and I’m just itching to read it especially since it’s so underrated.

Beauty Queens by Libba Bray

Beauty Queens

There are actually quite a few backlist Libba Bray books that I need to read but this is one I didn’t even know about until a little while ago! It’s about a group of beauty pageant contestants getting stranded together on an island after a plane crash and must survive and work together. It sounds like such a witty and hilarious story though, I can’t wait to read it!

Scarlet by A.C Gaughen

Scarlet (Scarlet, #1)

This one’s a Robin Hood retelling, I think that’s kind of all I need to say about it. I loooove retellings and especially underrated ones such as Robin Hood.

The Hallowed Ones by Laura Bickle

The Hallowed Ones (The Hallowed Ones, #1)

This sounds unique and also pretty creepy! It’s about an Amish girl whose village has declared that no one is to leave or enter their village due to massive unrest out in the “real world”. However, she finds an injured young man and opts to hide him in her family’s barn at a cost.

Say Her Name by James Dawson

Say Her Name

This is a horror story about the urban legend Bloody Mary, that’s kind of all there is to say about it. Sounds super good and super creepy! Finding a copy for some reason is really hard though?

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

The Scorpio Races

First of all I love Stiefvater’s other book “The Raven Boys” so of course I’m going to add her other book as well. Second of all a book about horse racing is for me since I’m a pretty big horse lover!

These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman

These Broken Stars (Starbound, #1)

Ever since I loved “Illuminae” I’ve been wanting to try Amie’s other series and plus I’m always one for a good YA sci-fi! I do have my doubts with this one a little bit since it seems like it might be full of tropes and be heavily romance focused. It’s about two teens crash landing on a planet.
