I know it’s late but better late than never for a new releases post! There’s still some great books that were published and I’m surprised a few of them are flying so low under the radar so I’d like to give them the attention they deserve! I’ll also still be doing a May new releases post, I was just a mess last month .
Wicked Saints by Emily A. Duncan
Release Date: April 2nd
This one is very hyped but I think it’ll be one of those that is very much worth it! It’s about three main characters must work together to assassinate the king and stop a war. Sounds very morally ambiguous!
The Devouring Gray by Christine Lynn Herman
Release Date: April 2nd
After moving to a new town, Violet finds out she’s descended from one of the town’s founders and discovers that the children of the other founders can wield otherworldly powers. Then they must find out what’s going on after bodies start appearing in the woods before something worse happens.
We Rule The Night by Claire Eliza Bartlett
Release Date: April 2nd
Is this steampunk? Because it sounds very steampunk-ish. It’s about two girls who can use forbidden magic but are offered a reprieve from punishment if they use their magic to assist a women’s military flight unit on missions.
Far From Agrabah by Aisha Saeed
Release Date: April 2nd
I believe this is more of a tie in for the live action ‘Aladdin’ movie but that’s fine with me! It’s an ‘Aladdin’ retelling nonetheless and it diverges from the path of the original animated film, so it’s not the “same ‘ol, same ‘ol”.
Alien: Echo by Mira Grant
Release Date: April 9th
WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT THIS BOOK?!!!!!! Not only is it set in the ‘Alien’ universe (the film franchise) but it’s written by Mira Grant which is a pen name for Seanan McGuire. You guys! This book deserves so much more attention for both those reasons, I bet it’s fantastic!
Dreaming Darkly by Caitlin Kittredge
Release Date: April 9th
This is a gothic mystery about a girl who is sent to live with a mysterious uncle on a remote island after her mother’s death. She starts to have episodes and nightmares and enlists the help of a boy who believes it may be connected to the island’s dark past. Sounds like it might have a wonderfully eerie atmosphere, potentially!
Descendant of the Crane by Joan He
Release Date: April 9th
A Chinese inspired YA fantasy about a girl whose father is murdered and she is suddenly queen of an unstable empire and hires a soothsayer to find her father’s killer. Which is punishable by death since magic has been outlawed.
This book got a ton of hype on release and it sounds amazing so definitely check it out!
The Sword & The Dagger by Robert Cochran
Release Date: April 9th
This is set during the time of the Crusades where a princess, her affianced prince, and a Muslim assassin set out to the court of Ghengis Khan.
This is the historical fiction I have been asking for!
The Dark Game by Jonathan Janz
Release Date: April 11th
Janz’s latest masterpiece! This one is about a fatal competition between writer’s on a retreat. I definitely recommend checking out any of his books though if you’re a horror fan and you can see my full review here for this book here.
The Raven’s Tale by Cat Winters
Release Date: April 16th
A sort of re-imagining of a young Edgar Allan Poe’s life in which he meets a Muse named Lenore and a Muse is a creature that leads the Artist down a path of ruin and disgrace. Definitely sounds interesting and Cat Winters is a fantastic author.
An Anatomy of Beasts (Faloiv #2) by Olivia A. Cole
Release Date: April 16th
Yes, finally the sequel to the amazing “A Conspiracy of Stars” is here! That book was very underrated and is a great YA sci-fi full of vibrant world building and is even a little reminiscent of ‘Avatar’ (the movie). You can check out my full review of the first book here.
When I Arrived at the Castle by Emily Carroll
Release Date: April 16th
A gothic horror graphic novel about a character going into a castle to kill it’s inhabitant. I really liked Carroll’s other horror graphic novel “Through the Woods” so I’d love to give this one a read! (I also believe it’s F/F but I’m not 100% sure).
I Know Who You Are by Alice Feeney
Release Date: April 23rd
I’ve heard really good things about Feeney’s other book “Sometimes I Lie” and she seems to write really twisty psychological thrillers so her new one should prove interesting as well!
The Tiger at Midnight by Swati Teerdhala
Release Date: April 23rd
A fantasy inspired by ancient Indian history and Hindu mythology featuring a rebel assassin and soldier. I’m basically here for the Indian and Hindu inspired fantasy part!
The Missing Years by Lexie Elliott
Release Date: April 23rd
The main character inherits half of a house, the other half belongs to her father who has been missing for 27 years. She relocates to the house, in the Scottish Highlands, and gets the weird feeling the house is watching her or and it’s strange how animals refuse to enter the garden. Then the first night time intruder shows up….
I heard this is one of those mystery/thrillers that borders on paranormal, WHICH I LOVE! Also how can you go wrong with a Scottish Highland setting?
Defy Me (Shatter Me #5) by Tahereh Mafi
Release Date: April 2nd
The Princess and the Fangirl (Once Upon a Con #2) by Ashley Poston
Release Date: April 2nd
Mera: Tidebreaker by Danielle Paige

Red Scrolls of Magic (The Eldest Curses #1) by Cassandra Clare & Wesley Chu

YES! So glad you enjoyed it and I agree it’s definitely underrated and you’re the only other one I’ve seen even talk about it! I mean it’s an Alien novel by Mira Grant, why is no one talking about it, haha! 🙂

Great list, Heather! I haven’t read any of these yet (I’ve been awfully behind with new releases lately haha), but am hoping to read If I’m Being Honest, Wicked Saints, the Devouring Gray, Tiger at Midnight, and Descendant of the Crane fairly soon! 🙂
