The Disney Book Tag

 

I was tagged to do The Disney Book Tag by Ariana over at The Quirky Book Nerd! Thanks Ariana I’ve been wanting to do this tag forever! Make sure you guys head over to her awesome blog and check out all of her great posts!

 

The Little Mermaid – A character who is out of their element, a “fish out of water.”

She’s a prim, proper rich-born girl in 1890’s New York City. So when she goes to find out the truth behind her father’s death she winds up walking around New York’s streets at night, going into alleys, and bars, and the like. Yeah she’s definitely not used to New York City’s underbelly.

I think she’s a really good example of a fish of water since she gets exposed to such a completely different world than she’s used to.

Cinderella – A character who goes through a major transformation.

Meira from “Snow Like Ashes” by Sara Raasch.

I can’t really go into too much detail about how much Meira transforms in this book because of spoilers, but I will say she goes through some situations that really help her grow as a person. There are also some plot twists that really make her go through a transformation as well.

I think Meira is a great choice for a character that goes through a major transformation since she kind of goes to thinking of herself to thinking about her kingdom and her entire race of people.

This is REALLY hard to describe without spoilers, hopefully I’m making some kind of sense!

Snow White – A book with an eclectic cast of characters.

The character cast of “Half a King” by Joe Abercrombie.

I would have loved to have used “Six of Crows” as an answer but….I haven’t read it yet….. I also would liked to have used “A Game of Thrones” as my answer as well but I’m already using it for a different question soooo the closest thing I can think of that’s like both of those would be “Half a King”.

Anyways this is a very Game of Thrones-esque book and there’s a pretty good string of characters within it. They’re all very diverse in their personalities as well making them all the more enjoyable to read about.

Sleeping Beauty – A book that put you to sleep.

“Blood, Ink, & Fire” by Ashley Mansour.

This was probably one of the most sleep inducing books I’ve ever read, especially recently. I struggled so much to finish it and I honestly wished I hadn’t, the ending wasn’t even worth my time. I was incredibly disappointed with it, the premise was interesting enough but the execution was a mess. The plot and characters were all over the place and the story really didn’t make much sense.

The Lion King – A character who had something traumatic happen to them in childhood.

Conor from “A Monster Calls” by Patrick Ness.

I’m agreeing 100% with Ariana and picking Conor, I honestly sat here trying to think of another character who fits this bill. I did, I really tried. I told myself, “Come on Heather think! You can’t COPY Ariana and pick the SAME book!” Needless to say it didn’t work and I’m giving credit to Ariana on this one.

Conor is the perfect pick  because the entire book deals with Conor trying to accept the traumatic event that is happening in his life. He essentially has to learn to accept his mother’s illness and understand that it’s not in any way his fault.

This is truly a very heart wrenching book, I recommend it so much. Unless you don’t like crying…then don’t read it.

Beauty and The Beast – A beast of a book (a big book) that you were intimidated by, but found the story to be beautiful.

“A Game of Thrones” by George R.R. Martin (Or really any of the A Song of Ice and Fire books).

I wasn’t ever super intimidated by it’s size because I knew it’d be worth every page, but it is one of the biggest books I’ve ever read so that’s why I’m picking it. The story isn’t really what you’d call beautiful either…..but I suppose you could say the feeling I got whilst reading it was beautiful just because I really love intricate fantasy worlds!

Aladdin – A character who gets their wish granted, for better or for worse.

Coraline from “Coraline” by Neil Gaiman.

I couldn’t think of a more perfect character for this! Coraline definitely gets what she wished for and not exactly for the better. She wishes her world could be more fun and not so dull and boring, she gets exactly that when she discovers tunnel behind a small door in her sitting room. The world on the other side is everything she wished for but it goes very wrong when that world doesn’t want her to leave……

Mulan – A character who pretends to be something or someone they are not.

Kate Thompson from “Vengeance Road” by Erin Bowman.

There’s actually probably quite a few characters that would fit this description but Kate was one of the first to come to mind. She disguises herself as a young boy in order to hunt down the gang of outlaws who killed her father. Mulan pretended to be a man and so did Kate, perfect match.

Toy Story – A book with characters you wish would come to life.

The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling.

Honestly I could’ve picked pretty much any book that I’ve read and enjoyed but who wouldn’t want to meet any of the Harry Potter characters? I spent my childhood reading those books and having those characters come to life would definitely be the equivalent to having my favorite toys come to life!

Disney Descendants – Your favorite villain or morally ambiguous character.

Cheshire from “Alice” by Christina Henry.

He’s not a villain but he is DEFINITELY a morally ambiguous character! I’m a big fan of the Cheshire Cat in any Alice in Wonderland retelling but this one was especially good, he’s not good but he’s not bad either.
