Book Recommendations: Underrated Books

top-ten-tuesday-11

Hello everyone! I don’t know about you guys but I absolutely love getting book recommendations and I also love giving them, however, I feel I haven’t read enough books to truly give a lot of great recommendations. I still try my best though! I decided I would do underrated books which I judged by the amount of ratings they had on Goodreads, under 3,000.

I will link these books up to both their Goodreads pages as well as my full reviews if I have them!

Hope you find these helpful and find some new books to add!

Timekeeper by Tara Sim – 872 Ratings on Goodreads

This is such a cute little story about a clock mechanic who ends up falling in love with the clock tower’s clock spirit. Also they’re both boys so this book IS LGTB! It’s also steampunk which is really neat even though I thought the steampunk element could have been more prominent.

This Is Our Story by Ashley Elston – 1,120 Ratings on Goodreads

A SUPER intriguing YA mystery/thriller about a group of boys who go hunting in the woods and one of their friends is shot dead. They decide that they either all get off free or they all go down together, and the main character is a girl who works in the local law office and gets to help out on the case. LOTS of crazy twists and turns!

Glitter by Aprilynne Pike – 772 Ratings on Goodreads

This is in a kind of dystopian society where people live in the Palace of Versailles like they did back in the 18th century. The main character resorts to selling the wealthy populace “glitter”, a drug, in order to get enough money to get out of there before she has to marry the King, who she witnessed murdering someone.

Needless to say there’s plenty of drama (in the good way)!

And The Trees Crept In by Dawn Kurtagich – 1,456 Ratings on Goodreads

I would say Dawn Kurtagich is an underrated author in general! She writes fantastic, psychologically creepy YA horror books.

This book is has both the creepiness and psychological elements with two girls living with their aunt who believes that they cannot go back through the forest or else the Creeper Man will get them…..

Kingdom of Ash and Briars by Hannah West – 363 Ratings on Goodreads

This one is probably my MOST recommended book on this list because it was absolutely fun and fantastic. It had great world building and also contained FOUR fairy tale retellings including Mulan, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Jane Austen’s Emma. I just got really attached to the characters and had such a fun time with it!

Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Cordova – 2,372 Ratings on Goodreads

While this book had a few flaws I was willing to overlook it because this was a debut and I think this author has such great potential! The world building was pretty awesome and I absolutely loved that this was not only a diverse read but also had witches aka brujas! The magic was definitely the most fun part.

Daughters Unto Devils by Amy Lukavics – 1,840 Ratings on Goodreads

I’m a big YA horror fan and it’s always hard for me to find TRULY horrifying books that scare me, this is one of them! This is about a girl who tires to hide her out of wedlock pregnancy from her religious family while they travel to a new home on the prairie. That’s where everyone starts to get cabin fever…… or is it something else?

If you love horror books, like, me definitely check this one out!

A Drop of Night by Stefan Bachmann – 954 Ratings on Goodreads

Image result for a drop of night

Another YA horror book but this one is a combination of horror and action/adventure. It’s definitely a really thrilling read about a group of kids who get trapped in an old underground French palace that’s filled with traps and something even more terrifying….

The Darkest Corners by Kara Thomas – 2,432 Ratings on Goodreads

Image result for the darkest corners

This is a YA mystery/thriller that’s so twisted and actually gets a little dark. You won’t see these twists coming guaranteed!

This one is about Callie  and her best friend who told a lie about what they saw the night the friend’s cousin died and it haunts Callie to this day. She returns to the town and finds things that don’t add up and she needs to find the real killer soon….

The Impostor Queen by Sarah Fine – 1,957 Ratings on Goodreads

An absolutely fantastic fantasy book with an even better magic system. I can’t recommend this book enough for fellow fantasy lovers!

This is about a girl who is raised to take the place of the current Queen who can use both types of ice and fire magic to protect the people and when the day comes where the Queen dies and the magic is supposed to go into her….it’s gone.

The Steep & Thorny Way by Cat Winters – 859 Ratings on Goodreads

Cat Winters is one of those authors where all of her books sound good and yet I haven’t found the time to read more of her books. However, this one a received as an ARC and it was amazing!

This is a historical fiction retelling of Shakespeare’s Hamlet and other than that it’s a little harder to explain the rest, sorry you’ll have to read the full description I’m lame!
