Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.
It has now been moved over to That Artsy Reader Girl.
This is an interesting topic this week since normally if I read a book and didn’t like it I wouldn’t really be glad that I wasted my time. However, there are always exceptions!
These are in no particular order and if I have a review I will link each title to it!
10.) Fallen by Lauren Kate
Yeah I was NOT a fan of this one! I am glad I read it though since a friend of mine loved this series and borrowed me the first book, it’s always nice to try new things especially for a friend. But I’m also glad I read it because now I know I pretty much dislike all paranormal romances back from the “Twilight-era”. This book was loaded with tropes too…..
9.) City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
The only reason I’m glad I wasted my precious reading time on this book is because of how ridiculously hyped the series and everything else Clare writes is. At least this way I know I’m not missing out and the hype isn’t worth it in my opinion. Now I know!
8.) The House of Night Series (#1-#9) by P.C. & Kristin Cast
I don’t know how I ever made it through 9 books in this series, why did I do that to myself?! Well I can say I’m glad I read them because once again it solidifies my belief that paranormal romances are not my jam.
7.) There’s Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins
I adore YA horror books and I’m glad I at least tried this one because now I know I wasn’t missing out on a great YA horror book. And also that Perkins can’t write horror and should probably stick to writing those YA contemporary romances….
6.) Divergent by Veronica Roth
I actually read this one before it was super duper hyped but I’m glad I did because otherwise I would have been suckered in by the hype and I would have been a lot more disappointed.
5.) One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus
I’m definitely a black sheep with this one because everyone loved it! I didn’t think the mystery was all that great and I didn’t like the characters either, this was a super hyped book as well so at least know I now.
4.) The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black
I finished a Holly Black book! And…..I didn’t like it. Holly Black is a very popular author so I wanted to give her a try anyways but now I know her writing might not really be for me. With the exception of “The Cruel Prince” because I definitely need to read that one!
3.) The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye
Another hyped book that failed to deliver for me, I’m glad I gave it a shot anyways. This was not as badass as it sounded, nobody reeeeaaaally fought to the death with magic…..
2.) Soundless by Richelle Mead
The one paranormal romance series I actually LOVED was Mead’s Vampire Academy series so of course I was pumped for her new book which also happened to be a standalone featuring Chinese mythology. Unfortunately, it was very slow and boring and hardly had any Chinese mythology or folklore or any world building at all!
1.) The Ravenous by Amy Lukavics
I’ve pretty much decided to ALWAYS give Lukavics’s books a shot since I really like her style and YA horror books are pretty few and far between. So I’m glad I tried this one even though it wasn’t as great as her other two books.
Have you read any of these books as well? What did you think?
What are some books you’re glad you read even though you disliked them?
Let me know in the comments!

Great list!! I really enjoyed the House of Night series when I was younger … but I almost have a feeling that if I read them today, I wouldn’t think the same way.

Totally agree about Holly Black. I cannot read anything she writes, except for The Cruel Prince.

Well that’s a relief to hear because it means I’ll probably enjoy The Cruel Prince at least! 🙂

Cassandra Clare seems to be an either/or kind of author. Readers love her, or hate her. I still haven’t gotten around to her series but I’m leaning towards no.

I agree she really is that kind of author because it definitely seems everyone either loves her books or hates them!

I was kind of meh on The Darkest Part of the Forest, but I liked The Cruel Prince. I didn’t really like White Cat by her either.

Well glad to hear you enjoyed The Cruel Prince nonetheless, I’ve been worried I might not enjoy it since I didn’t really are for 2 of her other books! 🙂

I also really didn’t like Divergent, and I’m also glad I didn’t get suckered in with all the hype. It just wasn’t my cup of tea at all.

I agree with One of Us Is Lying, it wasn’t as great as I was hoping. I did enjoy The Crown’s Game though.

City of Bones and Divergent made my list, too. I don’t understand the hype.
