Untitled design(14)

10.) Shadow Run by AdriAnne Strickland

YA Sci-Fi being compared to Firefly is all I want in life. I also feel like I’ve been waiting forever to read this….

9.) Even The Darkest Stars by Heather Fawcett

I just love the sound of this book so much with a girl who dreams of becoming an explorer for the Emperor and it also has a very Himalayan region feel to it.

8.) Wild Beauty by Anne-Marie McLemore

Because it’s diverse, has a beautiful cover, and I just have a good feeling that McLemore’s writing is gorgeous as well.

7.) Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody

I am just in love with this synopsis, it’s got a circus and it’s fantasy I’m sold. I would looove to have my own copy of this book waiting for me under the tree….

6.) The Last Namsara by Kristen Ciccarelli

The cover is also gorgeous and come on, dragons.

5.) The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand

This is actually a Christmas themed book I WANT to read, it’s a sort of retelling of “A Christmas Carol”.

4.) Now I Rise by Kiersten White

I NEED IT! Especially after everyone has been saying how much better it is than the first one.

3.) Golden Son by Pierce Brown

I need it in order to finish the trilogy. I am ready to be emotionally wrecked again.

2.) Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff

I NEED IT! After all of the shit that went down at the end of “Nevernight” I need to know what happens next!

1.) 10th Anniversary Edition: The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss

I’ve had this book on my TBR, FOREVER! Now that this gorgeous hard cover exists though…I want it….I need it!

Christmas Song Book Tag

Top Ten Tuesday(11).jpg

It’s time for another Christmas tag! I found the questions for this over on Stephanie’s blog at Adventures of a Bibliophile, so be sure to head over and check out her answers as well!

“You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch”: Name a villainous character you couldn’t help but love.

Image result for victor vale

This one is more in a grey area than anything since he’s not just straight up a villain but I loved Victor Vale from “Vicious”! He just had those moments that made me love him, especially with how he treated Sydney and Mitch.

“All I Want for Christmas is You”: Which book do you most hope to see under your Christmas tree?

Image result for 10th anniversary edition of the name of the wind

Well of course there are many but I would LOVE the 10th anniversary edition of “The Name of the Wind” by Patrick Rothfuss since it’s just so gorgeous! I NEED IT!

“Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”: Name a character that overcomes major obstacles and learns to believe in themselves.

Image result for the hate u give

I think Starr Carter from “The Hate U Give” fits this bill perfectly, a powerful character to match a powerful novel.

“Santa Claus is Coming to Town”: a) Which character do you think would be on the top of the naughty list? b) Which character do you think would be at the top of the nice list?

I’m agreeing with Stephanie on the first one, Umbridge is definitely at the top of the naughty list eternally. As far as the nicest character I’m just going with Taylor from “Queens of Geek” because she is honestly such a pure person and I loved her.

“Frosty the Snowman”: Which book just melts your heart.

Image result for queens of geek

Once again going with “Queens of Geek” which is very romance based and I loved every minute of it.

“Feliz Navidad”: Choose a book that takes place in a country other than your own.

Image result for bad blood book

I absolutely loved the Scotland setting in this book!

“It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”: Which holiday themed book do you use to spread the Christmas joy?

Image result for the night circus

I don’t read Christmas-y books…..at all…..because Christmas really isn’t my favorite holiday especially when it comes to books and movies and TV. I suppose if I could pick a non Christmas themed book though I’d go with “The Night Circus”.

“Sleigh Ride”: Which fictional character would you choose to spend the holidays with (doesn’t have to be a love interest!)

Hands down, Fred and George Weasley.

“Baby it’s Cold Outside”: Which book that you didn’t like would you sacrifice to a fire to warm yourself up in the cold?

Image result for blackhearts book

Forever “Blackhearts” because I am never going to forgive that synopsis. Don’t promise me pirates and a Blackbeard origin story and then give me a glorified hist-fic romance instead!

“Do You Hear What I Hear”: Which book do you think everyone should read?

Image result for the hate u give

“The Hate U Give”! I could sit and chant this one all day. Read it!

Anticipation – The Christmas excitement is real, what book release(s) are you most anticipating.

Carve the Mark (Untitled Duology, #1)Daughter of the Pirate KingEmpress of a Thousand SkiesCaraval

I’m definitely the most excited for these 4 books “Carve The Mark” and “Caraval” both come out in January and “Daughter of the Pirate King” and “Empress of a Thousand Skies” come out in February.

I’m on a sci-fi kick so I want all of the YA sci-fi I can get, I also have been dying for an actual YA pirate book, and “Caraval” is super hyped and has tons of great reviews so I want to see what that’s all about.

Christmas Songs & Carols – What book or author can you not help but sing it’s praises.

d30e6-jay-kristoff-1006752

I would go with Jay Kristoff because since reading 4 of his books (all 5 star ratings except “Gemina” which got 4) this year I can’t help but recommend them to everyone and sing his praises! If you love brutal, fast-paced, and great plot twists I’d recommend checking out his books.

Gingerbread Houses – What book or series has wonderful world building.

Image result for daughter of smoke and bone cover

Okay well besides all of  Kristoff’s books that I just mentioned I’d have to say “Daughter of Smoke and Bone” by Laini Taylor has some fantastic world-building! I can’t wait to continue on with the series too.

A Christmas Carol – Favorite classic or one that you want to read.

Image result for the hobbit jrr tolkien

I don’t read a lot of classics because I find it hard to get into the writing a lot of the time. My favorite classic is “The Hobbit” by JRR Tolkien though.

Christmas Sweets – What book would you love to receive for Christmas.

Image result for the night circus

Of course there are LOADS of books I’d like to get for Christmas but they one I’m looking for the most is “The Night Circus” because tons of people love it and recommend it (Michelle included!) and I really need to read it.

Candles in the Window – What book gives you that warm fuzzy feeling.

Image result for kingdom of ash and briars

I don’t read a lot of books that are warm or fuzzy but this book ,while tragic at times, was absolutely magical and adorable.

Christmas Trees & Decorations – What are some of your favorite book covers.

Image result for the forbidden wish coverImage result for and i darken cover

Apparently I have a weakness for purple…..

Christmas Joy – What are some of your favorite things about Christmas.

Getting to spend time with family and friends first of all because that’s important of course! Then I’ll have to go with Michelle and say Christmas lights because they’re just so pretty, I love driving around and looking at Christmas lights. Lastly I’ll say gifts both giving and receiving I looooove Christmas gifts!

Dashing Through The Snow Book Tag

dashing through the snow

I was tagged by Astra over at A Stranger’s Guide To Novels and she also created this awesome tag! So thanks Astra for not only tagging me but creating this new tag, it’s super impressive! Make sure you guys head over to her blog and check out the original post!

The Rules:

  1. Thank The Curator (Astra @ A Stranger’s Guide To Novels)
  2. Tag 5 People To Spread The Christmas Joy!
  3. Have Fun!

1. Name a book you would like to see under your Christmas tree.

Alright well there’s a TON of books I’d like to see under the tree this year but a lot of them I can buy cheaper on my Kindle soooooo I’m going to go with the box set of “The Monstrumologist” series!

Is it cheating to choose that as an answer? Since it’s more than one book? Oh well.

I have been meaning to read this series for a while now and if I can get all of them for Christmas that’d be pretty great.

2. A book you’ll be reading during the Christmas Season.

Soundless

I won’t be reading anything really Christmas themed but I will be getting around to reading “Soundless” by Richelle Mead! I actually bought this recently while Black Friday shopping and I’ve been meaning to do a bookhaul post…..but I’m lazy. So sorry about that but look for that post sometime this week!

3. Favourite Christmas Movie.

Hands down it’s “Elf”. I don’t watch a lot of Christmas movies I just watch “Elf” repeatedly, I’m a big Will Ferrell fan and I think he’s hilarious. I get really out of control with my “Elf” references as well…..

4. Do you like snow?

This is a very hard question for me. Yes I like snow because it’s pretty and I can go snowmobiling, BUT I really hate it because it makes driving anywhere extremely difficult here. North Dakota is not a place to live if you actually want to LIKE the snow.

I’m using this picture to make a point…it’s not really that bad but it’s damn near close.

There is such a thing as TOO much snow and in North Dakota that’s true.

So overall I guess my answer is no I don’t like snow just because it has become a major pain in my ass as I’ve aged. When I was a kid it was awesome but now that I’m an “adult” I have to DRIVE in it and it’s not fun anymore.

5. Name a character you you would like to spend your Christmas day with.

Just one?! Ok well I have two varying answers depending on the situation.

#1) I’d pick Gandalf from “The Hobbit” or “The Lord of the Rings” in hopes that he would bestow some wisdom on me or even better take me on an adventure.

#2) If Gandalf cannot take me on an adventure and I have to sit at home all of Christmas day then I’d pick Cersei Lannister from the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series. That’s right. Cersei. Because I actually really love her wicked bitchiness. I would sit and drink wine with her and be sarcastic and make plots to destroy my enemies.

6. To give or to receive?

Everyone loves to get presents and I’m no exception but I actually really like GIVING presents more. I like the feeling I get when I give someone something, especially since most of the time I put some work into the gifts. I’ve made gift baskets and such before and I always feel really proud when I give them to people!

7. What fictional place would you like to spend Christmas at?

Middle Earth. Is there anything special that happens in Middle Earth for Christmas? No because there is no Christmas, BUT I’d really like to go there anyways…….

Otherwise I’d love to spend Christmas at Hogwarts since they actually celebrate it…..

8. Fondest Christmas memory?

Well that’s actually pretty hard since I don’t have any specific ones that I find worthy of being discussed. So I’ll go with a Christmas-related memory.

One year a very long time ago, I was like 7 or 8, my mother decided to have a Christmas party at our house and invite TONS of people over. Well being North Dakota of course there was this awful blizzard that started when everyone was still at our house.

So everyone, EVERYONE got snowed in with us and our house isn’t really big enough to accommodate 30-40 people sleeping. Sure it wasn’t so bad since I liked everyone there but….still. It was a lot of people!

9. Can you say Christmas tree ten times FAST  in a row (pronouncing it correctly!)

I doubted myself but apparently I can do it! Yay!
